Randall Fowler

W. Randall Fowler, 87, of Aztec, N.M., formerly of Augusta, died Wednesday, March 4,1998 in Aztec.
No service is planned.
The family request memorials be made to charity of choice.
He was born Feb. 2, 1911 at Randlett, Okla, to W.W. “Bill” and Susie (Hickman) Fowler.
He moved to Augusta in 1918 and graduated from Augusta High School.
In Albuquerque, N.M., he owned a health studio and was an carpenter and builder. He was also very active in the senior center in Aztec. He taught guitar and exercises.
Preceding him in death are his parents, daughter, Wally Sue, brothers, William, Florence, G.L. “George” and J. Shelby.; sisters, Flora Farris, Marla Vierling, and Mary Jane
Fowler.
Survivors include wife, Doris Felice (Watson) and daughter, Marge Walters, both of Aztec; brother, Wallace W. Fowler of Tucson, Ariz.; and sister, Julia Fowler of Augusta; many nieces and nephews, including Joe Fowler and Kris Bell of Augusta

Carl E. Gilbert

Carl E. Gilbert, 65, died Sunday, March 8, 1998 at his home.
His funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Friday, March 13, at Hillside Funeral Home Augusta chapel; private burial will be held at Fairview cemetery. Chaplain Ron Keith will officiate.
He was a retired livestock producer and fanner.
He was born to Edwin L. and Anna Marie (Wilson) Gilbert on Jan. 10, 1933 at Emporia.
He married Ruth Mary Pendergraft on July 15, 1953 in Strong City. She survives.
Other survivors include daughters, Carla Gilbert of Mulvane and Mary Belinda Wheeler of Augusta; sisters Pauline Hulet of Littleton, Colo, and Irene Marn of Wichita, and three grandchildren.
Memorial has been established with Hospice, Inc., P.O. Box 3267, Wichita, KS 67201-3267.

Albert Matthews

Albert “Bert” Matthews, 82, former longtime Augusta resident, died on Tuesday, Feb. 17,
1998.
His funeral service and burial were held on Feb. 20 in Torrance, Calif.
He was born in Arkansas City and received his early education in country schools. He began his career at the Augusta refinery in 1932 at age 16 while working his way through Augusta High School. He continued to work fnr Mobil until his retirement in
1980.
In 1953, he was named maintenance manager of the Providence, R.I., refinery. He then served in similar capacities at Mobil’s facilities in Buffalo, Ny.Y. and Torrance, Calif.
He was initially married to Janet Sage of Augusta with whom he had two sons, Scott, who died in 1967 and Kurt. Janet died of cancer in 1955.
Three years later he married Ruth Garneau of Providence, R.I., and the couple had on laughter, Kim.
He maintained his member ship in the Augusta Elks Lodge 1462 and in 1985 was named a life member, he was also a member of the Augusta chapter of the Masonic Lodge.
Matthews is survived by his wife, Ruth, children, Kurt and Kim and two grandchildren, Ryan and Danielle. He is also survived by his sister Ruby Sf-San Jose, Calif, and his brother Ed of Neosho, Mo.
A memorial has been established with the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 21100 Victor Street, Torrance, Calif. 90503.
