Ex-Augustan dies at 61
Jessie William (Bill) Cox, 61, New Bern, N.C., formerly of Augusta, died Jan. 20.
His funeral services are pending. Burial will be in New Bern.
He was born Aug. 7, 1923 at Rose Hill to Doral and Blanche Gagan Cox.
He married Doris Romona Dennett Oct. 20, 1945. She survives.
Other survivors include a son, Bobby of Smithfield, N.C.; daughters, Dianne Klontz of Artesia, N.M., Anita Markman of Raleigh, N.C., Billie Jo Kerschner of New Bern; a brother, Marvin Cox of Augusta; sisters, Loleta Burnham and Doris Gallop of Rose Hill, and seven grandchildren.

Mary Lucille Baker, 73, Augusta, died last night at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her funeral service is pending at the Dunsford Funeral Home.

Rites Saturday for Hazel Herold
Hazel A. Herold, 88, Yates Center, mother of Thomas E. Herold of Augusta, died Thursday.
Her funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Campbell Funeral Home in Yates Center.
She was born June 19, 1896 in Woodson to John and Anna Wells Mentzer.
She married Edward Herold. He preceded her in death.
Other survivors include a son, Robert D. of Neal; daughters, Donna R. Beisel of Kansas City, Kan., Edna F. Hughes of Millsap, Texas, Laura L. Smith of Haysville; sisters, Mildred Van Walkenburg of Whittier, Calif., Aleta Tolle of El Reno, Calif.; 13 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Rites Friday for Mary Baker
Mary Lucille Baker, 73, 900 Money Street, died Monday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her funeral will be at 2:30 p.m. Friday at the Latham (Kan.) Baptist Church. Rev. Richard Axmann and Rev. Bill Alley will officiate and burial will be at the Latham Cemetery.
Viewing will be at the Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta only.
Memorials have been established with the Latham Community Building and the Augusta Caring Center.
She was born Nov. 17, 1911 in Bosworth, Mo., to John Richard and Viletty Knepper Bachtal.
She married Lowell H. Baker. He preceded her in death.
She was a member of the Latham Baptist Church and the Eastern Star there.
She had been a cook at the Beaumont Restaurant.
Survivors include a son, Larry of Madison, Va.; a stepdaughter, Charlotte Baker of Augusta; brothers, Dan H. Bachtel and John W. Bachtel, both of Augusta, Robert D. Bachtel of Kansas City, Mo.; sisters, Betha Burke of Pittsburg, Meda E. Wilson of Pateros, Wash., and grandchildren, Courtney Cameron and Coleman Baker, both of Madison, Va.
A sister, Ruby Williams, preceded her in death.
The Dunsford Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Darlene Rowland dies in Wichita
Frances Darlene Rowland, 57, 1043 State Street, died Monday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
The rosary will be at 7:30 tonight at the Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary in Wichita. Father David Spexarth will officiate. Her funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the All Saints Catholic Church in Wichita. Burial will be in the Calvary Cemetery of rural Augusta.
She was born Oct. 28, 1927 in Kansas City, Mo., to Louis and Ella K. Lehr Slee.
Survivors include an aunt, Beulah Haach of Wichita.

Ruth O’Neil dies at 79
Ruth Laura O'Neil, 79, Douglass, died Monday at her home.
Her funeral was at 3 p.m. today at the Swisher-Taylor-Morris Funeral Home in Winfield. Rev. William Scott officiated and burial was in Mount Vernon Cemetery in Winfield.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.
She was born Oct. 17, 1905 in Winfield to Robert and Laura Pratt Copple.
She married W. Russell O'Neil Oct. 28, 1926 in Winfield. He preceded her in death in 1974.
Survivors include sons, R. Marvin O'Neil of Douglass and Leonard Alan O'Neil of Goodman, Mo.; a sister, Mary Vaughn of Elk City; seven grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.

Sister-in-law dies
Mrs. Clarence Flowers, sister-in-law of Augustan Esther Lockwood, died Saturday at a Belton, Mo., nursing home. Her husband survives. Mrs. Flowers' funeral was Tuesday.
