Richard M. Moss

Richard M. Moss, 84, Augusta, died Monday, March 11, 1996, at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 14, Hillside Funeral Home Augusta,
with Dr. Robert Box of First Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
The retired Mobil Oil Refinery employee was born Dec. 21, 1911 in Atlanta
to Richard Clarence and Para (Jameson) Moss.
He married Anna Brannun on Feb. 1, 1933 in Newton. She preceded him in death on Sept. 26, 1995.
Moss is survived by his daughter, Cleta Duncan, Augusta; sister, Mabel Smith, Burden;
one grandchild, Deanna Strohm, Augusta, and two great -grandchildren, Daniel and Dillon Strohm, both of Augusta.
A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church building fund.

Melvin J. Koester

Former Augusta resident Melvin John Koester, 79, Harlingen, Texas, died Tuesday, March 12, 1996.
His graveside service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, March 16, at Elmwood Cemetery with
Rev. Vern Bowers of First United Methodist Church officiating
Visitation will be held from 6-8 p.m. Friday, March 15, at the Dunsford Funeral Home.
Koester was born July 24, 1916 in Nebraska to Otto and Jewel (Atchley) Koester.
He married Ruth Rozzell on Oct. 12, 1939 in Wichita. She preceded him in death in 1990.
Koester was a member of the Methodist Church and lived in the Augusta area for more than 50 years,
during that time, retiring as an operator for Mobil Oil Refinery.
He is survived by his daughter, Jan Bland, Austin, Texas; brother, Glen of Wichita;
sister, Eva Shively, Peoria, Ariz.; two grandsons, Ryan and Eric Bland.
A memorial has been established with the United Methodist Church, Augusta.

Jay Goeken

Warren “Jay” Goeken, 45, Augusta, died Tuesday, March 19, 1996, at the KU Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan.
His funeral service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, March 23, at First Christian Church
with Rev. Joe Wedan officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Goeken was born Nov. 21, 1950 in Junction City to Fred and Mary (Smith) Goeken.
They preceded him in death as did two brothers, Chris and Eric.
He was owner and operator of The Auto Shop.
Goeken is survived by his sons, Jason and Travis Goeken; daughter, Meredith Goeken;
sister, Ellen Rupert, all of Augusta; step-sisters, Christine Spangler, and Julie Berry, both of Mesa, Ariz.,
Marilyn Shinn, Gainesville, Ga., Roxanne Raptis of Gilbert, Ariz;
stepfather Kenneth Mears of Enterprise and fiancee, Priscilla Applegate of Augusta.
A Memorial Fund for College For the Children has been established with Bank IV.
A Memorial Fund for Jay Goeken Family’s Education has been established with Prairie State Bank.
A third memorial for the Augusta High School soccer program has also been established.
Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.

Violet Rosecrans

Violet Rosecrans, 93, Augusta, died Monday, April 8, 1996, at the Augusta Medical Complex Long Term Care Unit.
Her graveside funeral service will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, at Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born March 21, 1903 in Wellston, Okla., as the daughter of Earl and Edna Rosecrans.
This former worker in the Rosecrans Grocery store leaves a great-nephew, Norman Johnson of Augusta;
cousins, Roy Rogers of Huntsville, Ala., and Claire Hoover of Owensboro, Ky., and guardian, Jean Weiss of Augusta.
Memorials to AMCI Long Term Care are suggested.
The Hillside Funeral Home Augusta is in charge of arrangements.


Virginia A. Winger

Virginia Ann Winger, 68, Augusta, died Sunday, April 21, 1996.
There will be a graveside service for her at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 24, at Elmwood Cemetery.
Rev. Frank Miller will officiate.
Winger, a homemaker, was born Feb. 21,1928 in Augusta to Huey and Lola Singleton Rippee.
She is survived by her husband, William; sons, Clinton Winger, Mike Allen;
daughters Sherry Jones, Sandy Nesler, brother Richard Rippee; mother, Lola Rippee, all of Augusta;
eight grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren.
