Mildred Canfield
Mildred L. Canfield, 79, Augusta, died Saturday, Feb. 10, 1996 at Riverside Hospital in Wichita.
Visitation for family and friends will be from from 6 to 8 o’clock this evening at the Dunsford Funeral Home.
Her funeral will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 13, in the Dunsford chapel with Rev. Don Canfield, First Christian Church, Blue Springs, Mo., and Rev. Michael Omundson, First Christian Church, Augusta, coofficiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery..
She was born June 12, 1916 in Moline to Emory C. and Maimie E. (Patteson) Obenchain.
She married Earl “Runt” Canfield on June 19, 1940, in Steelville, Mo.
They had “The Dinette” across from the Mobil Oil refinery. He preceded her in death in 19731
She later operated a refreshment stand in the state office building, at Topeka and
she was with the State Employment Services, the Green Thumb Project, Job Services Department
and worked at the senior citizens center.
She is survived by her sons, Duane of Fayetteville, Ark., and Donald of Blue Springs, Mo.;
a daughter, Marlene S. Yocam, of Wichita; 10 grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren;
nine step-greatgrandchildren, and four great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Wichita Industries & Services for the Blind.
Christine Morris
Former Augusta resident Christine L. Morris, 82, Ventura, Calif., died Monday, Feb. 12, at a hospital following a brief illness.
Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 16, at Ivy Memorial Park in Ventura.
Rev. Neal Keller of First United Methodist Church of Ventura will officiate.
She was born Nov. 1, 1913 in Caldwell.
Christine was the wife of Noah Morris, former president of Prairie State Bank. He died in 1989.
She was a school teacher for more than 20 years and concluded her career in the Augusta school district.
She started teaching at age 18. During World War II, she founded a nursery school here.
Mrs. Morris also held membership in the First United Methodist Church of Ventura and a
50-year member of the PEO Sisterhood. She enjoyed traveling locally as well as abroad.
Surviving are sons and daughter-in-laws, Maynard and Arlene Morris of La Canada, Myron and
Wendy Morris of LaCrescenta; sister, Eva Bell of San Marcos; four grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews.
The Ted Mayr Funeral Home of Ventura is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials to the Arthritis Foundation, 400 Mobil Ave., Carmalla, Calif., 93010 or the
First United Methodist Church of Ventura have been suggested.
