Shirley Moon

Shirley Moon, 78, Augusta, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998.
Funeral arrangements were pending this morning at the Hillside Funeral
suggested.

Shirley Moon, 78, legal assistant, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998.
Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 2, at the First United Methodist Church in Augusta. Rev. Vern Bowers will officiate and burial will be in Elmwod Cemetery.
She was born on Dec. 15, 1919, in Lewis to Clarence H. Johnson and Marie (Bach) Johnson.
David Moon of Eugene, Ore., and Richard Moon of Mission; daughter Marilyn L. Moon of Chevy Chase, Md.; sister Vivian MacRae of Los Gatos, Calif; and six grandchildren.
Memorials have been established with the Augusta Public Library and the First United Methodist Church building fund.
She was married to Morris Moon Dec. 20, 1941. He served as Augusta’s city attorney for a number of years before his death in 1982.
Mrs. Moon was an Augusta resident for nearly 50 years. She was an avid sports fan and supporter of the University of Kansas and Wichita State University.
She was well known for driving her sporty Miata automobile around town.
Her college degree was in journalism. She worked with her husband for many years in his law office.
She was an active member of the Augusta community and supportive of the Methodist Church as well as Butler County Community College.
Mrs. Moon leaves sons Jesse Moon of Huntsville, Ala., Robert Moon of Portland, Ore.,



Mildred Chlumsky

Mildred Katherine Chlumsky, 87, assistant librarian at Augusta Public Library, died Saturday, Aug. 29, 1998.
Her funeral service was held today, Sept. 1, at the First Christian Church in Augusta. Rev. Tom Davis officiated and burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born Sept. 22, 1910, in St. Louis, Mo. to Theodore B. Kicker and Katherine G. (Schafer) Kicker.
She was married to Clyde Chlumsky April 1935 in St. Louis. He died in 1993.
Survivors include: daughter Katherine Badger of Casper, Wyo.; niece Joyce Kelly of Detroit, Mich.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorials have been established with the First Christian Church of Augusta and the Augusta Public Library.

John E. Burch

Retired truck driver John Edward Burch, 69, died Sunday, Aug. 30, 1998.
His funeral service was held today, Sept. 1, at the Dunsford Funeral Home.
He was born Sept. 16, 1928 in Cabool, Mo. to John Burch and Ivy (Merr) Burch.
Survivors include: wife, Helen Montgomery Burch; son Darrell of Augusta; daughters Billie Butler of Sioux City, Iowa, Wanda Humphry and Dorothy Natale, both of Augusta; brother Ercie of Morrison, Okla.; 14 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
