Tragedy ends nearly 60 years of marriage
Augusta couple killed in crash on U.S. 54.
Arliss Logan and his wife, Opal “Camilla,” loved to travel, especially in their later years.
“We used to travel all the time,” said Jean Gregory, Mr. Logan’s sister of Ada, Okla “We had a motor home and would pick them up and go from Florida to Canada for a week or two each summer. They just enjoyed it”
Mr. and Mrs. Logan, of Augusta, were killed Thursday evening in a two-vehicle accident on US. 54, west of Augusta They were westbound on the highway, trying to turn left onto Diamond Road when their vehicle and an eastbound pickup truck collided.
Funeral services for the couple will be 1 p.m. Monday at Hillside Funeral Home in Augusta
“My brother was a very conscientious type of person who always worked hard,” Gregory said.
Mr. Logan, 84, was a retired aircraft avionics crew chief from Beech Aircraft Mrs. Logan, 81, was a homemaker.
The two met in 1938 at East Central College in Ada, Okla They married in June of 1940 and moved to Wichita in March of 1941 where he began working at Beech.
“She was a nice quiet little lady with an excellent demeanor,” Gregory said. “She had health problems, so he always worked hard to give the family what he could. She was ill a lot of the time the children were growing up.”
The couple moved from Wichita in the 1970s when Mr. Logan found a place for sale in rural Butler County.
“He just wanted a place where he could have a garden,” Gregory said.
He retired from Beech in February 1980.
The two are survived by a son, John, of Salina; two daughters, Evelyn Logan of Wichita and Arlene Henderson of Augusta; 10 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.
Mrs. Logan is also survived by a brother, Hugh Smith , of Oklahoma City.
