Augusta couple dies in car-truck collision
Arliss and Opal Logan of rural Augusta died as result of injuries suffered in a car-truck collision west of Augusta around 5 p.m. Thursday.
Funeral arrangements for the couple have been made at Hillside Funeral Home Augusta.
The funeral will be 1 p.m. Monday in the Hillside Funeral Home chapel.Burial will be Elmwood Cemetery.
Arliss Everett Logan, 84, was a retired aircraft avionics worker for Beech Aircraft. Mrs. Logan, 81, was a homemaker.
According to a Kansas Highway Patrol report, the Logans were westbound on U.S. 54 in a 1999 Toyota automobile. They had made a left turn into the median of the highway at Diamond Road and
The ‘totaled’ pickup truck.
were struck by an eastbound pickup truck, a 1996 Ford, operated by David Jones of Fall River, when they attempted to cross the east-bound lane. The Logans lived on Diamond Road, south of the highway.
Both vehicles were “totaled.” according to the KHP report.
In addition to state troopers at the scene, emergency medical per-
sonnel, sheriff’s officers, and the rescue workers from Augusta were also present to help the injured.
Mr. Logan was transported to the Wesley Medical Center by Lifewatch helicopter. Mrs. Logan went to Augusta Medical Complex by ambulance.
The couple leaves a son, John Arliss Logan of Salina; daughters, Evelyn M. Logan of Wichita, and Arlene J. Henderson of Augusta; 10 grandchildren, and 16 greatgrandchildren.
Mr. Logan also leaves a sister, Jean Carol Gregory of Ada, Okla.
Mrs. Logan leaves a brother, Hugh E. Smith of Oklahoma City, Okla.
The couple was wed June 2, 1940 in Ada, Okla.
