Merton C. Reed

Merton C. “Mut” Reed, 75, Towanda, retired Vickers and Coastal dock loader, father of Lesa Dixon of Augusta, died Saturday, May 31, 2003.
His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Towanda United Methodist Church of Christ.
He was born on Nov. 5, 1927 on a farm near Towanda, the son of George and Myrtle (Mosier) Reed. He grew up in Towanda and graduated from Towanda High School in 1945.
He was united in marriage to Betty Rickerson on Feb. 25,1951. He served his country in the United States Army in the 507th Calvary during the Korean War, from 1952 to 1954. After returning from his tour of duty, he began working for the Vickers Refinery in Potwin
and later the Coastal Refinery in Wichita as a dock loader. He was a member of the Towanda United Methodist Church of Christ, the American Legion Capt. Edgar Dale Post #81, the Community Building Committee of Towanda, and was secretary and lifetime member of the Lions Club. With living his entire life in the Towanda area, he was very active in community activities of the town. One of his favorite pastimes after retirement was to put on his overalls and go cut firewood. He was a man who touched many lives and made Towanda a better place to live.
Other survivors include: wife, Betty of the home; son and wife, Todd and Tracey Reed of Rose Hill; daughter, Janet and James Dyer of Mount Belview, Texas; brother, Dell Reed of Joplin, Mo.; sister, Lora Mae Dunlap of Towanda; four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Christie Reed; three brothers; one sister.
A memorial has been established with the Towanda United Methodist Church of Christ or the Southern Care Hospice.
Kirby-Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado has charge of the arrangements.

Al Derringer

Al Kenneth “Kenny” Derringer, 55, Wichita, father of Kenneth Derringer of Augusta, died Tuesday, May 27, 2003.
His funeral service was held Saturday, May 31.
Other survivors include: sons, Chancey Derringer of Leon, Cecil Derringer of Newton; daughter, Josephine Derringer of Wichita; sisters, Shirley Derringer, Eureka, Daisy Potter and Charlotte Briggs, both of Wichita; four grandchildren.
All Faiths Funeral Home in Wichita had charge of the arrangements.

Samuel Keeton

Samuel O’Dell Keeton, 60, Wichita, brother of Wayne Keeton of Augusta, died Saturday, May 31, 2003.
His graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, at Bristow Cemetery, Bristow, Okla.
Other survivors include: brother, Dewey of Wichita; sisters, Bonnie Hook, Irene Phillips, B.J. Kennedy, Faye Mock, all of Wichita, Margie Wiggins of Holly Hill, S.C.
Broadway Mortuary of Wichita is in charge of the arrangements.
