Miriam Blue Dies At 71
Miriam E. Blue, 71, rural Douglass, who spent most of her life caring for unwanted animals, died yesterday at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home in Douglass. Graveside services will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Cozine Cemetery in Corbin, Kan.
A memorial has been established with the Kansas Humane Society, 4218 Southeast Blvd. Wichita, Kan., 67210.
She was born Jan. 16, 1912 in Bismark, Pa., to Graeff and Nora Brenner Galebach.
She married Calvin Blue Oct. 13, 1962 in Wichita. He preceded her in death.
She was a Navy veteran and former Boeing Aircraft Co., employee.
Blue either adopted or found homes for animals that had been dumped in the country by uncaring people. When the animals were in poor health, she nursed them back to health often with the aid of area veterinarians. She saw to it that animals had their shots and were neutered.
Ellen Querner, vice president of the Kansas Human Society board of directors, said Blue worked hard to find homes for animals. She helped others to care for them.
Blue’s love for living things was not limited to animals.
“She also helped take care of people who couldn’t take care of themselves,” Querner adds. “She was a very loving person.”
Blue worked with the Kansas Humane Society as a volunteer. She often refered cruelty cases to the society.
Blue was also active with the Kansas Federation of Humane Societies and once had served as secretary on that board.
Survivors include two brothers, Graeff Galebach Jr. of Roseville, Calif., and Lewis Galebach of Fredericksburg, Pa.
