Dean L. Scherman
Dean L. Scherman, 57, Paola, brother of Barbara Loewen of Augusta, died Saturday, Oct. 10, 2009.
Visitation will be Tuesday, Oct. 13, from 6 until 8 p.m. at Holy Trinity Church in Paola.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 14 at the Holy Trinity Church, 601 E. Chippewea, Paola.
Burial will be at the Holy Cross Cemetery. Penwell-Gabel Funeral Home and Crematory are in charge of arrangements.
Memorials in lieu of flowers are requested for Dean Scherman Robotic / Lego League Fund, the Miami County Fair Association, or a charity of choice.
throughout his 29 years: two years at Osage City High School and 27 Paola High School.
While teaching he also worked the family farm. After retiring from teaching Dean became a Technology Support
Technician for the Osawatomie State Hospital.
His knowledge, dedication, and humor won over the hearts of many.
He was united in marriage to Angela Butel on Aug. 7, 1976 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church. They have three children, Nathan, Deanna, and Lee.
He was a member of the Miami County Fair Board for many years. He and his wife Angela have enjoyed the interaction with 4-Hers from all over the county and the many friendships they have made through the years.
In 2003 Dean became involved in “US FIRST Robotics”. He and his colleagues formed the Paola High School Panther Robotics team. Dean’s commitment to Robotics led
He was born on Nov.17, 1951 and was the son of Herb and Naomi Scherman of Paola.
Dean graduated from Paola High School and was an active member of the community.
He attended Kansas State University earning a degree in Radio and TV Broadcasting and Emporia State University earning his Master’s degree in Physical Science Education.
He taught Electronics and Principals of Technology, but his favorite class was Physics. Dean loved interacting with and teaching students
him to join the original Kansas City Regional Planning Committee which helped boost the number of participating schools in the Kansas City area. At the 2009 Greater Kansas City Regional competition, he was honored as the Outstanding Volunteer of the Year. In June of 2009, Dean and his family were invited to visit NASA’s Kennedy Space Center for a personal tour and viewing of a Space Shuttle launch, a memory they will always cherish.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Herb and Naomi Scherman.
In adition to Mrs. Loewen, he is survived by his wife Angela, children, Nathan and Colleen Scherman of Lenexa, Deanna Scherman of Paola, and Lee Scherman of Salina, granddaughter Emma Jean Scherman.

Sara A. (Powell) Reider, 62, Wichita, sister of Gayle Lopez of Douglass, died on Oct. 2, 2009.
A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 14, at DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Chapel in Wichita.
Other survivors: son, Michael Reider; sisters, Linda Emrich and Nancy Courter; many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Lung Association of Kansas, 2024 N. Woodlawn, Ste. 114, Wichita, KS 67208.
