John J. Tomlin
87, AUGUSTA

John J. Tomlin, 87, of Augusta, passed Oct. 20, 2011, and is awaiting the Lord's return. He will be laid to rest at Maple Grove Cemetery in John Tomlin
North Lewisburg, Ohio.
John was born in North Lewisburg, Ohio to his loving parents John and Estella Tomlin on March 15,1924. He was a graduate of North Lewisburg High School and served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during World War II. He married Rita Hughes of Port Chester, New York and they resided in North Lewisburg, Ohio where they raised their family. He was active in the community and served as Scoutmaster for Troop 87 and also coached Little League Baseball. He retired from The Western and Southern Life Insurance Company in 1986. He moved to Augusta, Kansas four years ago and grew to love the community, where he was active in The American Legion and The Veterans of Foreign Wars.
He was a loving family man and friend to many.
He is survived by: his children, John and wife Rose Tomlin of Olympia, Wash., Don Tomlin of Springfield, Ohio, Joe Tomlin of Fairborn,
Ohio and daughter, Jeanette Vogel and husband Joe of Augusta; 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; brothers, Charles and Paul Tomlin; sisters, Virginia Davis, Ellen Organ and Phyllis Clark, all of Ohio.

Newton Payton
69, AUGUSTA

Newton Kay Payton, 69, retired aircraft employee, passed away Sunday, Oct.
23, 2011.
Visitation 7 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and service 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, both at Headley Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery.
Newt was born Dec. 13,1941 to Kay and Faye Payton in Delaware County, Okla. He went to school in Augusta, and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Marine Corps in March 1965.
He was preceded in death by his father Kay Newton Payton and his brother Jack D. Payton.
He is survived by: his wife Sandra (Smith) Payton; sons, Kurt and Aaron Payton; mother, Faye Payton; sisters, Mary Ann Thornton, Genice Carpenter, Beverley Clark; brother, Jerry Payton; three grandsons, Kyle, Zack and Jacob Payton; and many nieces and nephews.

J. Harley Holt
71, so. jacksonville, IL

Pastor James Harley Holt, 71, of South Jacksonville, II., and formerly of Augusta, died Thursday. Oct. 20, 2011.
Cremation will be accorded and no services will be held. A private family committal of the ashes will be held at a later date.
He is survived by: children, Brian Holt (Becky) of Topeka, Rhonda Day, (Harold) of Cincinnati, Marcie Kaufman (Gene) of Augusta, and Jamie Baxter (Randy) of Battle Creek, Mich.; 10 grandchildren;! great-grandson; brother, Jimmie Richard Holt (Ham); sister, Linda Beeley (Larry)
He was preceded in death by his parents.

Marjorie Leayman
89, ROCK

Maijorie Leayman, 89, of Rock, passed away Friday, Oct.21, 2011.
Viewing 1-2 p.m., with service to begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 26, 2011, at Douglass Christian Church. Burial will follow at Douglass Cemetery.
Marjorie was born in Rock, Kan. on Jan. 14, 1922, the daughter of the late Rolla and Verna (Starkey) Kunkel. She worked as a cook at cafes in Rock and Douglass.
She was preceded in death by her husband Glenroy Leayman, 5 brothers, 2 sisters and 1 grandchild, Jamie Leayman.
She is survived by: sons, Gary Leayman and wife Mary of Oconto Falls, Wis., and Ron Leayman and wife Shirley of Augusta; daughters, Cindy Hibbard and husband Larry of Toronto, Kan., and Jean Steward and husband Dale of Grenola; sisters, Eleanor Johnson of Rock, and Meryl Knapp of Augusta; 12 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
Memorials to Good Samaritan Nursing Home Activity Fund, Hospice Care of Kansas or Rock Christian Church.
