Carter J. Zerbe
AUGUSTA

Tuesday and service 5 p.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012, both at First United Methodist Church, Augusta.
Zerbe was born on Oct. 5,1939 in Burlington, Iowa, the son of Florence and Daniel J. "Jack” Zerbe. He moved with his family to Augusta in 1958. Zerbe worked in the publishing business for 46 years, succeeding his father as full-time publisher of the Augustapaper in 1979, and also serving as regional manager for Lib- f erty Group Publishing after that company acquired the newspaper in the mid-1990s.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Lolita (Buffington), his daughter and son-in-law, Brenda and Elliott Rod-da, and their children,
Eli and Emory. Zerbe was preceded irfdeath by his brother, Terry*apd a son, Brian. He is also survived by a daughter-in-law, Pat (Rawls) Zerbe, grandchildren Rhiannon and Richard Zerbe, and two greatgrandchildren, Madeline Carnahan and Cole Martin. Other survivors include sisters-in-law Charla Zerbe and Lynne Tjepkes, and three nephews, Cazzie and Damon Zerbe, and Jake Tjepkes.
Active until his death, Carter served on the board of trustees for Butler Community College, where he was board president for two terms, and also served on the board of directors at the Elliott School of Com-■ jumiications at Wichita State University and the William Allen White School of Journalism at the University of Kansas.
Over the years, Zerbe had been a board member of the Augusta Chamber of Commerce and the Augusta United Way. He was a charter member of the Augusta Optimist Club and was a member of the former Elks Lodge and the Augusta Jaycees. He served eight years on the Au-

went to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 24,2012. She was a loving wife, Smith mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend.
Terri was the wife of G. Loel Smith; the mother of Stacey Smith (Chris) of Augusta, Brandy Davis (Jerry) of Augusta, Levi Smith of rural Augusta, and Ryan Smith (Katie) of rural Augusta; the grandmother of Coty, Bailey and Savanna Smith and Ally and Garrett Davis all of Augusta; the daughter of June Casteel of rural Augusta; and the sister of Mike Mead, Ronnie Mead (Connie), Patty Alfrey all of Augusta, and Virginia BeAney (Mike), of Ft. Collins, Colo.
She was preceded in1 death by her dad, Virgil Mead; grandmother, Mertle Mead and grandparents, Lester and Ruby Countryman of Eureka. Terri was born in Eureka, Kansas on October 29,1950.
The family moved to Augusta where she spent most of her years around Augusta and Douglass areas. She graduated from Augusta High School in 1969.
Terri and Loel were united in Holy Matrimony on June 21st,1967 at the First Baptist Church in Augusta.
Terri was a 4-H project and community leader for 26 years. She always served where needed.
Terri and Loel were in the livestock business most of their married life along with their children. Terri also worked for Pizza Hut Inc. (PepsiCo) for 12 years until the company moved to Texas and Kentucky. She worked in the paint and lumber business and was a homemaker at the time of her sudden death.

Funeral service 10 a.m. Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at Cul-bertson-Smith Mortuary, 115 S. Seneca, Wichita.
Norman was preceded in death by his parents, Cora and Murray Wike.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Wike; children, Rodney (Sharon) Wike and Maria Wike-Bousquet; 7 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; siblings, Melba (Harold) Staats, Patricia (Raymond) Fletcher, Ruby (Junior) Simon and Ralph (Mary) Wike. Margaret "Marge" Byrd

She was born Sept.20, 1929 to Peter and Agnes (Pesch) Bruner in Clearwater, Minn. Marge worked for AAA, Four Wheel Drive, Sheplers, and as a teacher's aide at Augusta Middle School. She was an active member of Augusta Church of Christ where she enjoyed singing. Marge had a passion for cooking, and loved birds, especially hummingbirds. In her later years, Marge became quite an avid reader and a big fan of Beverly Lewis books.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gerald Fitzgerald, Gene Behnke, and DaVon Byrd; daughter, Barbara Fitzgerald; and 10 siblings.
Marge is survived by: her children, Mark Fitzgerald and Sharon
Rachel Bates Karmen Blessing, Eric Blessing, and Nicole Blessing; and great-grandson, Elijah Bates; and siblings, Robert “Bob” Bruner and Patricia “Pat” Hiischle.
