Tressa Myers
95, AUGUSTA
Tressa Anna Louise (lowers) Myers passed away peacefully on Nov.27,
2012. She was known for her faith and love of family as well as her kindness, determination, and superb cooking. She had a profound and deep appreciation of God’s natural world, and she instilled this in her children. She died with bright sunshine on her face and surrounded by her loving family who will miss her so much.
Tressa was born July 18, 1917, in Diamond, Mo., to John Clementine Powers and Nettie Lou Etta (Wilhite) Powers. She was the fourth of six children. In 1923, her family moved to Kansas, south of Augusta, where her father had found work in the newly discovered oil field. There she grew up among family and friends. To enable herself to attend high school in Augusta, Tressa worked several jobs. She graduated with honors and was the first in her family to graduate from high school.
On June 6, 1937, she married Robert L. Myers in Augusta. They were married 74 wonderful years before Bob’s death. They were life-long residents of Wichita, rural Rose Hill, and Augusta, except for a brief time in California during Bob’s World War II service. Tressa and Bob had 4 children, Larry Dean, Dennis Gene, Glenda Louise, and Robert Lynn. As her children grew, Tressa was a devoted homemaker and housewife. She was always involved in her children’s school activities, serving on PTA committees and community service organizations. Her heart always had a place for those in need. Bob and Tress a were self-employed in construction and appraising for much of his career, and Tressa served as the bookkeeper and accountant.
Bob and Tressa had many joyful retirement years. They toured the entire United States and Canada in their travel trailer with friends and family. They both truly cherished their wonderful family at the First Baptist Church of Augusta.
Who was Tressa Myers? In the words of her grandson, Brandon Crouch: “A grandchild could ask for no better “Grammy,” than Tressa Myers. As a child, when I would spend the night with my Grammy and Grandpa, I would see her up early every morning with her cup of coffee and open Bible. Tressa Myers was a woman who knew, listened to, and walked with her Lord Jesus.
She blessed her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in tremendous ways. She demonstrated with her life what it meant to be a strong woman, wife, mother, and Grammy. The impact that her life and prayers had on my life have already been passed on to my children and I am sure will continue for generations to come. “And now, the Lord she knew in part she will know in full (I Cor 13:12).” In the words of Revelation 21:4, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.””
Tressa was preceded in death by her husband of 74 years, Robert L. Myers; her brothers, Lyle Ambrose, Finis Ellsworth, Cleo Woodrow (Doc), and Joel Teet (JT); sons, Larry Dean Myers and Robert Lynn Myers; son-in-law, Michael Crouch; grandson Matthew Myers and great-granddaughter Adella Mae Crouch. She is survived by her sister, Mary Dean January; son Dennis Gene Myers, and wife Judy; daughter Glenda Louise Crouch; grandchildren, Julie (Myers) Davis, Jana (Myers) Reed, Larry Dennis Myers, Michael, Brandon, and Courtney Crouch, Jude and Josh Myers; great grandchildren, Matt, Aubrey, Devan, Daleigh, Dawson, Lakynn,
Kynnedy, Breckynn, Silas, Ohlson, Isaiah, Macy, Devin, and Alexandra.
Visitation will be Friday November 30, 2012 from 1-7 p.m. at Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta; family will greet friends from 6-7 p.m. Service will be Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 1501 State St., Augusta, Kansas. Burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church.
