AUGUSTA
Kenneth Dill, 100

Kenneth “Dint” Dill, 100, the youngest of seven children, two girls and five boys, born to John and Elizabeth Irvine Dill died peacefully at his home on June 29, 2014. He was born in Oblong, ILL., moved briefly to Wichita and then to Augusta where he entered elementary school. He met Azela Patterson, who lived down the street, in first grade and the two were married March 27,1937, a union of 75 years. They were Augusta residents the remainder of their lives with Azela preceding him in death in December 2011.
Dint was an outstanding athlete in High School playing both basketball and football. After graduation he pitched for the Augusta White Eagle traveling baseball team. He was a member of the same Boy Scout Troop as his son and great-grandsons and when an adult he led the troop as scoutmaster. Over the years he coached youth in a variety of area sports.
While in High School, he began working for Mobile Oil by digging ditches to lay the original pipeline. He then worked at various jobs throughout the plant until 45 years later he retired with the title of Operator. Dint was a founding member of the White Eagle Credit Union contributing two dollars to the cigar box that held the original treasury.
He was always active in his church. After retirement Dint joined Kiwanis, became an honorary grandparent at Garfield Elementary School across the street from the family residence, and delivered Meals On Wheels until past the age of 90 along with his wife, Azela. Dint ; took it upon himself to tend the graves of family and friends at a number of local cemeteries making sure no one was forgotten. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, watching sports, and riding around town to watch the Augusta grow.
One of his most cherished qualities was the ability to encourage and nurture generations of family and friends. The revolving door at 118 High was always open and hospitality extended to everyone.
He is survived by: 4 children; daughter, Judy (wife of the late Andy Torres) of Augusta, son Roger of Valley, Neb., daughter Peggy (Ross) Eshelman, Clinton, Mo., and daughter Connie (Loddie) Mnich, Moodys Okla.; 8 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren; two surviving sister-in-laws, Aurilla White of Blue Springs, Mo.Shirley Patterson of ElDorado, KS. Uncle Dint is also survived by dozens of loving nieces and nephews.
