Corrine (Latta) Afton, 87
Corrine (Latta) Afton, 87, passed away Friday, March 13, 2015, at Wheat State Manor, Whitewater. She was born in Harper County, Kan., April 26, 1927, to Jonathan and Pearl (Dietz) Latta. She married John D. Afton on September 3, 1948, enjoying almost 64 years together. She was a Certified Genealogist and recorded data from 70 out of 72 cemeteries in Butler County. She lived most of her life in Benton. She was preceded in death by parents; a sister Thelma Friedel; and husband, John D. Afton. Survived by her children, Alan Afton and wife Marlene of Baton Rouge, Lou; Judith Robben of Wichita; and Michael Afton and wife Kathy of Benton; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Bonnie Black; a half-brother, Richard Morris; and brother-in-law, Joseph Friedel. Graveside Service: 1 p.m., Monday, March 16, 2015, at Benton Cemetery. Viewing: 5-7 p.m., Sunday, at Lamb Funeral Home. Inez Marie Walker, 96
Inez Marie (York) Walker, 96, lifetime caregiver for many, died April 9, 2015. She was the first-born to Lillie Mae (Lakey) and Clarence Alvin York, on April 13, 1918, in Neodesha, Kan. Siblings that followed her were Mary (Hills) and Alvin ("Bud”). After her parents divorced and remarried, Bonn and Buss Walker were later siblings. She was raised in the Neodesha and Fredonia area before marrying Ernest Norman Walker in Winfield on Aug. 7, 1937 They lived in Augusta and had four children: Gwendolyn Delores, Ernestine Lue, Douglas
Clarence, and Sheryl Ann. She was a member of the Church of The Nazarene in Augusta since 1971.
Surviving children are Sheryl (Jim) Shaffer of Mountain Home, Ark., and Gwendolyn (Howard) O'Brien of Newton. Surviving granddaughters are Elizabeth (Stan) Dagel, Glenda (Don) Hiebert, Erma (Doug) Clarkson, Vanessa (Gerry) Randolph, Kathy (Jim) Skidmore, Becky Lemke, Vivienne Summers, and Sally (Will) Ferguson. Surviving grandsons are Doug (Kerrie Sunitsch) Walker, Jr., Jim and Mike Walker, Steve (Dawn) Powell, Ernie (Crystal) O'Brien, Eddie (Lisa) Shaffer, and Art (Shannon) Tenbrink. Twenty-two Great-Grandchildren and 10 Great-Great Grandchildren also survive.
She was preceded in death by her parents, all siblings, her husband Ernest in 1978, her only son Doug (Priscilla) in 2010, and daughter Ernestine (Art) Ten-brink in 2012.
Visitation will be Tuesday, April 14 from 1-8 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be on Wednesday, April 15 at 2 p.m., both at Dunsford Chapel, 201 East Fifth Ave. in Augusta. Memorial contributions can be made to the Church of The Nazarene, left in care of Dunsford Funeral Home.
