Virgil Smith
Virgil R. Smith, 80, Douglass, died Tuesday, Dec. 31.
A funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday at the Douglass United Methodist Church.
Burial will be in the Douglass Cemetery.
Smith was born Sept. 18, 1911, in Towanda to Coila (Tillotson) and William C. Smith.
On April 24,1937, he married Velma Teter in Winfield.
He was a former member of the Douglass Lions Club and was a member of the Douglass United Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Velma; daughters, Beaulah Mowder of Seattle, Wash., Marilyn Shroyer of Wichita,
Donna Stewart of Udall, Patricia Carroll of Emporia; brothers, Verne of Denver, Colo., Austin of Douglass;
11 grandchildren; 14 greatgrandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Alzheimer’s Association. Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home,
Douglass, is in charge of arrangements.
Juanita F. Jonker
Juanita F. Jonker, 78, Wichita, mother of Terry L. Jonker of Augusta, died Tuesday, Dec. 31.
Her funeral service will be 10 a.m. Friday at the Wellington Place Baptist Church, Wichita.
Burial will be in White Chapel Memorial Gardens, Wichita.
Jonker was born July 12, 1913, in Oklahoma to Ezra Keith & Katie (Haastedt).
In 1929, she married August Odessa Jonker. He preceded her in death in 1982.
Other survivors include sons, Richard C. of Colwich, Danny J. of Wichita;
daughters, Dena Yates of Wlhcita, Judy A. Rudiscll of Estes Park, Colo.;
brothers, Bill Keith, Beulah Dungan, both of Wichita; 11 grand-children; eight greatgrandchildren.
Cochran Mortuary of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.

A. Lorin Cox, 84, Wichita, father of Virginia Scholfield of Augusta, died Wednesday, Jan. 1.
His funeral service was today, Jan. 3, at the Quiring-Old Mission Mortuary.
Burial was in the Highland Cemetery at Winfield.
Cox was born Jan. 23,1907, in Everton, Mo., to Lela Ellen (Breeding) and John Newton Cox.
He was a retired employee of Scholfield Brothers in Wichita.
Survivors also include his wife, Opal; sons, Delmar of Kent, Wash., Jim of Winfield;
seven grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren.
Memorials have been established with the First Bible Baptist Church and the American Heart Association.
Mary E. Meyer
Mary E. Meyer, 80, Wichita, sister of Elizabeth Fitzwater of Augusta, died Wednesdsay, Jan. 1.
A rosary will be recited at 7 o’clock this evening at the DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt Mortuary in Wichita.
A funeral service will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 4, at the All Saints Catholic Church in Wichita.
Burial will be in the St. Anthony Cemetery at Garden Plain.
Meyer was born Sept. 12, 1911, in Garden Plain.
She was a retired Boeing cafeteria employee.
Other survivors include a daughter, Jackie Givan of Wichita; a brother, Ben Meyer of Wichita;
one grandchild; two great-grandchildren.
