Leota Applegate

Former Augusta resident Leota Florence Applegate, 91, North Richland Hills, Texas, died Friday, Feb. 2, 1996.
Her service will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, in the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel.
Dr. David Hill of Southwest Baptist Church in Wichita will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
The homemaker was born July 23, 1904 in Douglas County, Mo., to Huston and Sarah (Pruett) Sharpton.
She married Lenza Applegate on Dec. 31, 1922 in Douglas County, he preceded her in death in 1949.
She is survived by her sons, Marvin of Wichita, Loyal, of Arlington, Texas, and Chesley, of Albuquerque, N.M.;
daughters, Beatta Smith,'of Fort Worth, Texas, Letha Oiler of Lucas, Elizabeth Wagner of Hutchinson;
20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.
The funeral home identified the daughters as sisters in yesterday’s obituary notice.

Austin Houston

Austin Houston, eight-month infant son of Letitia Houston of Augusta and Troy Young of Wichita,
died Friday, March 29, 1996 at Augusta Medical Complex.
His funeral service will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 2, Hillside Funeral Home Augusta Chapel.
He is also survived by his grandparents, Teddy James of Sterling, Tina Houston of Wichita,
Lowell and Sierra Young of Wichita; great-grandparents Thelma Houston of Augusta,
Jaquelyn and Clifford Sharp, address unavailable.
A memorial has been established with the Children’s Miracle Network.

Alberta Martin

Alberta May Martin, 99, Augusta, died Monday, Feb. 12, 1996, at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her graveside funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 15, at Elmwood Cemetery.
Rev. Vern Bowers of First United Methodist Church will officiate.
There will be a visitation from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 14, at the Hillside Funeral Home Augusta.
She was born May 27, 1896 in Carbonado, Iowa, as the daughter of Rose Lehman and John Wilson.
She married Virgil Martin in 1940. He preceded her in death in December of 1980.
This homemaker leaves a daughter, Blanche Moore of University Park, Iowa;
a sister, Mary Duykers of Merrilville, Ind.;
two grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and seven great-great grandchildren.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society have been suggested.

Frank Strait Jr.

Former Augusta resident Frank Samuel Strait Jr., 69, West Palm Beach, Fla., died Tuesday, Feb. 13, 1996.
His funeral service was held Thursday, Feb. 15, at Del Lago Funeral Home, Lake Worth, Fla.
Strait was born March 21, 1926 in Augusta.
He married Lucille (Welch) in May, 1946. She survives.
Strait was preceded in death by his father and a brother.
He is also survived by his daughters, Linda Therianit, Palm Beach Qardens, Fla., Pat Clemmons;
sons, Ron Strait, Greg Strait, all of Morris, 111.; mother, Mary Strait;
sister, Geneva Peterson, both of Grove, Okla.; nine grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

David D. Todd

David D. Todd, 58, Augusta, died Wednesday, Feb. 28, 1996.
His funeral service will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 2, at Jehovah’s Witnesses Kingdom Hall west of Augusta.
Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Todd was born Aug. 8, 1937 in Houston, Texas, to Dean and Kathryn (Crane) Todd.
He married Ruby Jane Davis during November 1960 in Augusta.
Todd was a lawn service owner and operator and a minster.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Tim and Jack Ikey of Texas;
daughters, Lorrie and Dee Dee Ikey of Texas; sisters, Sylvia Hudson, Wichita, Jill Boucher, Carl Junction, Mo.;
parents, Dean and Kathryn Todd, Andover and 14 grandchildren.
The Hillside Funeral Home Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
