Bessie O. Monroe

Former Augusta resident Bessie Orpha Monroe, 83, Newton, died Wednesday, March 13, 1996.
There will be a graveside service at 2 p.m. Friday, March 15, at Elmwood Cemetery here. Rev. Jeff Wisner will officiate.
Monroe was born July 17, 1912 in Concordia to Charles and Minnie (Hopshouer) Madison.
This homemaker had married Walter Bingham and later Ralph Monroe. Both preceded her in death.
She is survived by her sons, Charles Bingham of Placerville, Calif.,
Larry and Richard Bingham, both of Burrton; daughters, Ruthe Rude of Valley Center,
Peggy Ralston, Ginny Milner, Katie Graber, Sherry McCandlis, all of Burrton,
Hazel Van Horn of Tills a, Marge Keith of Chickasha, Okla., Sue Terronez of Hutchinson,
Linda Coiner of Broken Bow, Neb., Diana Mitchell of Broken Arrow, Okla.;
56 grandchildren; 96 great-grandchildren, and seven great-great-grandchildren.

Dean Welch

Dean Welch, 71, Augusta, died Monday, March 11, 1996 at the Walnut Valley Manor nursing home.
She was a retired curator at the Augusta Historical Museum.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at the Hillside Funeral Home Augusta.
Hospice chaplain Ron Keith will officiate. Cremation is planned.
She was born March 23, 1924 in El Dorado as the daughter of Thursay Snyder and Mason French.
She was married to Jack Byers. He preceded her in death in 1964.
Mrs. Welch leaves sons, Jack Byers of Dallas, Texas, and Rick Byers of Wichita;
daughters, Elaine Walls and Kathy McClure, both of Augusta, and Vicki Lund of Dallas, Texas;
brother Delbert French of McPherson; sisters, Mary Watson and Pat Prichard, both of Augusta;
Elma McKay of Wichita, and Jenny Barker of Missouri; 12 grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Marion French, and
two sisters, Betsy Cline and Rose Dingman.
Memorials to the Augusta Historical Museum have been suggested.

John R. Sandfort

John Richard Sandfort, 63, Augusta, retired owner of Southwind Oil Corp., died Sunday, March 10, 1996.
There will be a memorial service for Mr. Sandfort at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, in
First United Methodist Church, 2420 Ohio.
He was born Jan. 19, 1933 in Salina as the son of Florence Jasperson and Frederick F. Sandfort.
He leaves two sons, Ronald J. Sandfort and Stephen C. Sandfort, both of Augusta;
a daughter, Jennifer S. Hancock of New Haven, Conn.; a brother, Frederick F. Sandfort Jr. of Wichita;
a sister, Marian Wilson of Las Animas, Colo., and five grandchildren, Rory, Lesley, John, Coty, and Luke.
Memorials to the Methodist Church and/or the Augusta Arts Council have been suggested.
The Downing & Lahey Mortuary of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.
