Mother Dies In Newton
Gladys M. Fry, 85, Sedgwick, mother of Marjorie Thomas of Augusta, died Friday at the convalescent center in Sedgwick.
Her service was at 10 a.m. today at the United Methodist Church in Sedgwick. Rev. Wayne Castle officiated and burial was at the Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick.
A memorial has been established with the United Methodist Church there.
She was born Sept. 5, 1897 in Peabody to Daniel and Delilah Wise Miller.
She married William M. Fry. He died June 5, 1972.
She was a homemaker. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, VFW auxiliary, the Rural Rhythun, Farm Bureau and the Friendship Club.
Survivors also include a son, Wayne Phillips of Kearney, Neb.; another daughter, Hazel Baldwin of Oklahoma City, Okla.; 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
The Peterson Funeral Home in Newton was in charge of arrangements.

Ex-Treasurer Dies At 76
Ivan A. Smith, 76, El Dorado, who served as Butler County treasurer from 1935 to 1939, died Dec. 22 in El Dorado.
His service was at 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 24, at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
Survivors include his wife, Neva Smith, of the home; sons, Richard of Sandford, N.C., Roger of Wichita, and Kay Mairs of Dallas, Texas; a brother, Clarence of El Dorado, and eight grandchildren.

DeWitt Rites Are Thursday
John Henry DeWitt, 67, Route 2, died Dec. 27 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Wichita.
His services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born March 23, 1915 in Cylender, Iowa, to Henry F. and Clara Elliott DeWitt.
He married Laura Ann Maggard March 17, 1939 in Lyons. She survives.
He was a retired city employee and a heavy equipment operator.
Other survivors include sons, John Clayton DeWitt of Iola and Jimmie Franklin DeWitt of the home; daughters, Ethel Ann Thompson, Towanda, Leanna Rose Gordon, Jay, Okla., and Cindy Walter, Augusta; brothers, Lawrence DeWitt, Ray DeWitt and Guy DeWitt of Port Huron, Mich., Roy DeWitt of Broken Bow, Wyo., and Jim DeWitt of Augusta; sisters, Bertha Braman, Cass Lake, Minn., Mamie Marvin of Princton, Minn., and Clara Rodiuenz of Henderson, Nev., and 12 grandchildren.
Two sons, a daughter, three brothers and a sister preceded him in death.

Whitson Twins
Jacob Walter Whitson and Julie Anatonia Whitson, infant children of Randall and Diana Whisler Whitson, died at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Joint graveside services were yesterday at the Union Cemetery in Benton. Rev. Dale Sneeringer officiated.
Survivors include the parents Randall and Diana Whisler Whitson of Benton; a brother, Joshua Whitson of the home; grandparents, Walter and Katherine Whitson, Warren and Claudine Henrie, all of Benton; great-grandparents, Elva Hooper of Augusta, and Edna Eastin, Charles and Nellie Whisler, all of El Dorado, and Gladys Widick of Benton.

Kirkpatrick
Charles Kirkpatrick, 84, Elk City, Okla., father of Mrs. A.W. McVay, Augusta, died Monday, Dec. 27, at the Elk City hospital.
His funeral service will be 10 o’clock Wednesday morning, Dec. 29, at the First Baptist Church in Elk City and a graveside service will be conducted at the cemetery in Cushing, Okla.
He also leaves a son, James Kirkpatrick of Oklahoma City.

Sister Dies In New York
Nellie L. Sanders, 80, Webster, N.Y., sister of Ethel Spencer of Augusta, died in Webster Dec. 28.
Her service will be at 4 p.m. Thursday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Brooks, pastor of the First United Methodist Church, will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Methodist Church in Miami, Okla.
She was born Nov. 26, 1902 in Kansas to George and Jennie Hitchcock Downing.
She married James J. Sanders who preceded her in death.
Other survivors include a son, Vernon Sanders of San Antonio, Texas; two daughters, Marian Webster of Rochester, N.Y., and Helen Maddox of Grand Junction, Colo.; 14 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
