Gladys M. Cash

Gladys Margaret Cash, 90, of Augusta, died Saturday, July 25, 1998 in her home.
Her funeral service will be led by Rev. C.R. Macchi at the First Baptist Church, at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 29. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Gladys M. Cash was born the only child of William Bruner and Stella Warren Bruner on Dec. 16, 1907, at their rural home near Sedan.
She attended Sedan schools, graduating from Sedan High School in 1925. In 1927, she received a life certificate to teach Home Economics from Pittsburg State College. She taught one year in Elgin, and two at Augusta Junior High. While teaching in Augusta, she met Clovis Cash, whom she married Aug. 26, 1930, in Sedan.
Her home economic skills were applied diligently to establish a prosperous home for her family. In 1930, at the urging of their pastor, Rev. L.R. Johnson, she established children’s Sunday School classes, for grades four through eight, which the First Baptist Church did not have at that time. She soon accepted the role as Superintendent of the Junior Department for grades 4 through 6, which she served faithfully for 49 years. She loved teaching Biblical truths to children, and also training numerous teachers whom she chose to teach in her classes.
She was also an active participant in the Women’s Mission Ministries of the church, and served on various school boards. For many years she assisted in a lay-role, the sponsors and advisors of Augusta High School, as a Christian advisor.
She enjoyed her membership and friendships with the Round Table Study Club for 60 years, serving it in many capacities.
She had been a past member of Haverhill Demontration Unit, Butler County Retired Teachers, and the Augusta Historical Society.
She was preceeded in death by her husband of 53 years, Clovis Cash, in 1988. She is survived by her two daughters, Jo Janette Casey and Carolyn Price, and Carolyn’s husband, Bill, all of Augusta. Her grandchildren include Lisa Bowman of Spring, Texas, Karen Fickett of Santa Rosa, Calif., David Price of Yukon, Okla., and John Price of Wichita.
Tier great-grandchildren include Kyle and Emily Bowman of Spring, Texas, Will and Eve Fickett of Santa Rosa, Calif., and Josiah Cash Price of Yukon, Okla.
Memorials have been established with the American Baptist Internatit Baptist, 1501 State, Augusta, KS, 67010. Cal Fraley’s Boys and Girls Ranch, Box 1890, Amarillo, Texas, 79174. Floral remembrances for her service are also welcome as she loved flowers and always had a flower garden which she grew, not only for personal enjoyment, but so that flowers could be provided for her church for many years.

Alice V. Clark

Alice Virginia Clark, 85, died Monday, July 27, 1998 at her home.
Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, July 30, at the Hillside Funeral Home Augusta with Rev. Stanley Upchurch officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 28, 1912 in Parkersburg, W.Va., as the daughter of Adrian Belscher and Sarah Vaughn Belscher.
On May 4, 1934, she married Raymond L. Clark in a ceremony at Winfield. He survives.
This homemaker and self-employed ceramics crafts person leaves a son, Don Clark and his wife, Mary, of Augusta; a granddaughter Leeanna Herman, and her husband. Todd, of Park City, and great-grandchildren Kylee Rae Herman, Danielle Lynn Herman, and Taylor Aleece Herman.
Memorials to the American Legion Post 189, P.O. Box 234, Augusta, Kan., 67010 have been suggested.
