VELMA MARY HOWARD DYKES
Velma Mary Howard Dykes, 85, of Augusta, died Tuesday, Sept. 29 at 9:55 a.m. A graveside service will be held for the family, Thursday at 2 p.m. at Elmwood Cemetery. Brother Earl Moodey will officiate.
Velma was born July 28, 1913, in Logan County, Okla., to Edward Anderson and Ida Velma (Merrifield) Howard.
She married Belmont Burbage Dykes July 5, 1944, at Arlington, Va.
Velma was a member of the Augusta Congregation of Jehovah’s Witnesses. She worked for the Federal Civil Service for 26-1/2 years, retiring in June 1972.
Survivors include: sons Bert Howard Dykes of Augusta, Gary Russell Dykes of Wichita; daughter Ann Brown of Augusta; ; sisters Vada Foudray of Los Gatos, Calif., Lila Brown of Guymon, Okla.; brother Bert Howard of Rogers, Ark.; granddaughter Paula Kay Catlett of Augusta; one grandson Jared Lane Dykes of Wichita; and one great-granddaughter, Kyla Kay Catlett of Augusta.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Belmont; her parents, and her brothers Jack, Russell, Alva, and Stanley Howard.
The family requests no flowers. Cards may be sent to Ann Brown, 724 Stadium Dr., Augusta, Ks, 67010.
