Thomas L. Taylor

Thomas Leroy Taylor, 84, died Friday, May 26, 2000 at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His graveside service was held this morning, May 30, at Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Aug. 7, 1915 in Augusta as the son of Thomas W. and Una May Patterson Taylor.
Mr. Taylor worked for former Mobil Oil refinery in Augusta from 1937 until retirement in 1979. At the time of retirement, he was a scheduler and planner.
He married the former Gladys Lucille Frans on Christmas Eve (Dec. 24) of 1936 in a ceremony at El Dorado. She survives.
Mr. Taylor was a lifetime resident of Augusta and a member of the Augusta First Baptist Church.
He leaves children and spouses: Stanley and Cleota Taylor, Janis (Taylor) and Dale Swafford, Ruth (Taylor) and Norman Watson, all of Augusta, Richard and Linda Taylor of Derby; grandchildren Alesia Taylor, Cindy Taylor and Teresa Linot, all of Augusta, Michelle Morris of Oxford, Angela and Paul Taylor of Derby; greatgrandchildren Michaela, Kelsi, and Kai Gallardo, Matthew Marcotte, Laiken, Logan, and Lenexa Linot, all of Augusta, Sarena Seal and Kyle Morris of Oxford; sisters Rosalie Powers and Ellen Bell Miller, both of Augusta, and Helen Auernheimer of Newton.
Mr. Taylor was preceded in death by his parents, brother George, sisters, Lorene Powers, Juanita Malan, Sarah Taylor, and Norma Jean Taylor.
Memorials to First Baptist Church have been suggested.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta was in charge of arrangements.

Ralph R. Belt

Ralph Ruckle Belt, 76, Augusta, died today, June 2, 2000 at Via Christi St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
His funeral service will be 10 a.m. Monday, June5, at the Dunsford Funeral Home of
Augusta.
He was born July 6, 1923 in Oil Hill to Atlas Delno and Viet-ta Elizabeth Ruckle Belt.
His family moved to the Haverhill community, east of Augusta, when he was a small child. He attended school at Haverhill and Augusta High School, graduating with the Class of 1942.
Ralph joined the U.S. Marine Corps Nov. 20, 1942. He attended boot camp at San Diego and Paratroop School at Camp Gillispie, Calif. He served with E Company of the 2nd Paratroop Bn. in the South Pacific until February of 1944 when he was transferred to B Company, 1st Bn, 27th Marines, 5th Division.
Ralph landed on Iwo Jima with the first wave on Feb. 19,
1945. He was wounded March 13, 1945. After spending a year at the Navy hospital in Astoria, Ore., he was discharged April 6, 1946.
He and Mary Virginia Ward were married July 27, 1947 at the Augusta First Christian Church.
Ralph was a cabinet maker and carpenter in the El Dorado and Augusta area until he went to work at Beech Aircraft as a maintenance carpenter crew chief, retiring from Beech after 23 years.
He was a lifetime member of the First Christian Church serving for many years as a deacon on the properties committee and the church board.
Ralph was also a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League, Disabled Veterans, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and the El Dorado Elks Lodge.
In addition to his wife, he leaves son, Curtis Belt and his wife Cathy of Independence, son Paul Belt of Augusta and five grandchildren, Heather Belt, Jennifer Deere, Casey Belt, Lee Belt, and Jessica Belt and great grandson Joshua; a brother, A.D. Belt of Great Bend and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brothers, Clifford, Carl, Guy, Lee, and Eugene.
Memorials have been designated to the First Christian Church of Augusta or the First Marine Force Memorial at Veterans Park in Wichita, in care of Bryan Allen, 734 N. Murray, Wichita, Kan., 67212.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.

Helen McVay

Helen Ruth McVay, 80, Augusta, retired telephone company employee, died Nov. 1, 2000.
There will be no service.
She is survived by her sister, Jessie Patrick, Augusta.
Memorials to the First United Methodist Church have been suggested.
DeVorss Flanagan-Hunt of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.
A remembrance of Mrs. McVay will be conducted during the 8:30 a.m. service Sunday at First United Methodist Church, 2420 N. Ohio.

Clifford Evans

Clifford W Evans, 15, Augusta Middle School student, died Friday, June 16, 2000.
His funeral service will be Service 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 20, in the Hillside Funeral Home Augusta Chapel.
He leaves his father, Richard W. Jr. of Wichita; mother, LaLanie, sisters, Jessy, Jaclynn, all of Augusta; grandparents, Richard and Linda Evans of Wichita, Tom and Charline Otis of Augusta; great-grandparents, Craig and Zana Spellman of Tulsa.
A memorial has been established with Rose Hill Bank of Augusta.
