Harry L. Buskirk
Harry L. Buskirk, 82, Augusta, design engineer, died Saturday, Oct. 7, 2000.
His funeral service will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 10, at Hillside Funeral Home, Augusta. Rev. Howard Friesen will officiate at the service. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
Harry was born as the only child of Guy Orville Buskirk and Lenora Levick-Buskirk in
Humbolt on April 20, 1918.
Mr Buskirk graduated from Chanute Junior College and worked for Swallow Aircraft and Beech Aircraft where he retired after 42 years of service.
Harry’s desire to fly aircraft supplied inspiration for his work as a preliminary design engineer. He was able to fulfill a great desire to go for a sailplane (glider) ride on his 80th birthday, a gift from his son, Steven.
He leaves his wife Pauline; sons and daughters-in-law, Steve and Marcia Buskirk of Wichita; Michael and Kerry Buskirk of Augusta; daughter and son-in-law. Lisa and Gary Thompson of Wichita. Harry and Pauline also have eight grandchildren, Jake and Jenna Buskirk, Holland Kisch, Heath, Evan and Elena Buskirk, Bailey Nicole and Skylar Madison Thompson, as we as a great-granddaughter, Grace Genevieve Kisch.
Harry was an avid reader and was involved in Scouting with his sons. He had an unquenchable desire to travel the world.
Harry had a wonderful sense of humor that he expressed through his artwork and love for all God’s creatures great and small.
He was a member of -the First Southern Baptist Church of Augusta.
Memorials in lieu of flowers have been established with the Gideons, a special fund for the missionaries supported by Cumberland Community Bible Church, or to the mission of your choice.
Nita Mae Mercer
Nita Mae (Harvey) Mercer, 71, Augusta, retired student advisor at Wichita State University, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000.
Her service will be 1:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 9, at the First Christian Church of Augusta, 1600 State.
Visitation will be possible from 1 to 4 p.m. Sunday at Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill Mercer of Wichita; brother, Ray Harvey of Cheyenne, Wyo. She was preceded in death by her husband, John H. Mercer in 1980.
Memorials to the First Christian Church of Augusta and Wichita State University School of Music have been suggested.
Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.
Grace Ripper
Homemaker Grace L. “Ethel” Ripper, 96, Canton, formerly of Augusta, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2000.
Her graveside service was today, Oct. 9, at Canton Township Cemetery.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Ripper of Hutchinson; five daughters, Gloria Richison of Modesto, ILL.; Jeanette Wiederstein of Canton; Mary Lee Mauk of Augusta; Patsy
Unruh of Benton, Portia Martin of Valley Center; 13 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorials to the Canton Christian Church, Augusta Christian Church, or Shiloh Nursing Home, Canton, have been suggested.
Olson’s Mortuary Inc. of Canton was in charge of arrangements.
Mary Seaman
A memorial service for Mrs. Mary Seaman, 81, formerly of Augusta, will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the First United Methodist Church, Temple, Texas, with Rev. Connally Dugger and Dr. Jack Riley officiating.
Mrs. Seaman suffered a heart attack in her sleep on Sept. 30 in Miami, Fla.
Survivors include her husband, Seth (Wally) Seaman of Miami, Fla.; a brother, William Orr of Kingman; a daughter, Sue Lance of Miami, Fla.; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Richard Allen.
Memorials may be made to the First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 773, Temple, TX 76503.
B. Schiermeister
Bruce C. Schiermeister, 60, Augusta, 60, Boeing programmer analyst, died Saturday, Oct. 28,2000.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 31, both at St. James Catholic Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.
A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. tonight, Oct. 30.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia; sons, Bruce Schiermeister Jr. and John Schiermeister, both of El Dorado; daughters, Susan Morse of Augusta, Vicki Van Vickie of Wichita; brother, Gerald
Schiermeister of Glenwood, Minn., and seven grandchildren.
Memorials to the American Cancer Association have been suggested.
