Marge White

Marge White, 79, Augusta, retired secretary, died Wednesday, Dec. 6, 2000.
Her funeral service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Lakeview Funeral Home in Wichita. Viewing will be possible until 8 p.m. tonight, Dec. 8 and from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at the South West State Room, Lakeview Funeral Home. Internment will be at the Lakeview Mausoleum.
She is survived by her husband Al White; sons Michael White of Augusta, T.C. White of Highland, Ind., and Randall White of Berthoud, Colo.; son and daughter-in-law, Gary and Diane Vant Leven of Alberton, Mont.; sister, Mary Jean Hertzel of Wichita; and eight grandchildren.
Memorials to SCCS Hospice have been suggested.
Lakeview Funeral Home of Wichita is in charge of arrangements.

Terry R. Portier

Terry Ruth Portier, 60, Augusta, died Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2000.
Her memorial service will 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 17, at the Augusta First United Methodist Church, 2420 N. Ohio.
She is survived by her companion, Jules Portier; son, Terry L. Portier, Derby; daughter, Gina Portier, Victorville, Calif.; five grandchildren

Herman Pippin

Lifetime Augusta resident Herman Melvis Pippin, 80, retired Mobil Oil refinery employee, died Thursday, Dec. 7, 2000.
His funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 12, at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.
Visitation with the family will be from 10 a.m. Tuesday, until the service. There will be no public graveside service.
He was born Oct. 8, 1920 in Christian County, Mo. to James Franklin and Rachel Evelyn (Adams) Pippin.
He was preceded in death by both parents; brothers, Hershel and Raymond Pippin; sisters, Elma, Francis, Mae, and Delores.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine; sons and daughters-in-law, Keith and Priscilla Pippin of Scottsdale, Ariz., Jack and Jan Pippin of Burlington; daughter and son-in-law, Theta and Bill Johnson of Bronson; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Vandy and Eddie Ray and sons, Nicholas, Zachary, Scott and Julie Pippin and daughters, Alecia, Ashley, Thumper, and Allen Johnson and daughter, Alexandra, Jackie and Tim Green and children, Mariah, Dreiling, Anthony Vant Leven of Columbia, Mo.
He was the gentle father and moral compass for his family. They remember him as that soft-spoken family leader and teacher. He loved to engage in a good debate and encouraged others to express and support their own positions.
Memorials with the Hope Community Church Music Ministry, Andover, have been suggested.

Mary A. Kirk

Mary Ann Kirk, 87, of Hutchinson, died Monday, Dec. 11,2000.
Her memorial service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 13, at Elliott Mortuary Chapel in Hutchinson with Rev. Dr. Ronald E. Holland officiating. A private family burial will be in Hutchinson.
Mrs. Kirk was the daughter of Roy and Sarah Haines, a prominent Augusta family. Her father, Roy A. Haines, was founder/CEO of Prairie State Bank and two-time Kansas Bank Commissioner for Gov. Alf Landon, and her aunt, Stella B. Haines, was a member of the Kansas Legislature and national president for the Daughters of the American Revolution.
Mrs. Kirk graduated from Augusta High School in 1930 where she was a member of the National Honor Society.
She attended Lindenwood College in St. Charles, Mo., and received her bachelor of arts degree from the the University of Kansas where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
She moved to Hutchinson in 1937 to work for her father’s oil exploration office.
She is survived by her husband, Earl Kirk of the home; two daughters, Karen Richards of Mission Hills and Diane Wengler of Colorado Springs, Colo.; a granddaughter and three grandsons; and a sister, Stella Jean Barteldes of Lawrence.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Hutchinson Boys and Girls Club in care of Elliott Mortuary.
