Lorene McDermott

Lorene McDermott, 82, Augusta, mother of Gazette news editor Michael McDermott, died Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001.
Her graveside funeral service will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2001, at Highland Park Cemetery in Kansas City, Kan.
Mrs. McDermott was a homemaker who enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was born Oct. 21, 1918 in Kansas City to C.W. and Minnie Peck Strandt.
She was married to Bernard G. McDermott who worked
most of his life as a switchman for the Union-Pacific Railroad. He preceded her in death.
She was also preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, Charles and William, a sister, Hazel, and a son, John.
In addition to her son and his wife, Lynda, she leaves a sister, Caroline Freidell of Kansas City; grandson, C. David McDermott of Los Angeles, Calif., granddaughters, Shannon Roberts of Augusta, and Heather Bartlett of Ramstein, Germany, and three great-grandchildren, Brayden Roberts, Emma Roberts, and Sarah Bartlett; several nieces and nephews.
Memorials to the Augusta First United Methodist Church or the children’s section of the Augusta Public Library are suggested.
The Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.

Lula I. DeMoss

Former Augustan Lula Irene DeMoss, 84, Borger, Texas, died Friday, Jan. 5, 2001.
Her graveside service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001, at Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born Nov. 10, 1916 at Glade. She moved to Augusta in 1946.
Mrs. DeMoss did volunteer work with the Veterans of Foreign Wars Ladies Auxiliary of Augusta.
Lu, as friends called her, was married to Dale DeMoss together they owned and operated the DeMoss Bait & Tackle at Pickrell Comer, east of Augusta.
She loved working with people and was always ready to give them a smile.
Mrs. DeMoss is survived by daughters, Carolyn Caudle of Guymon, Okla., and Dorothy Babb of El Dorado; brothers, Blaine Sparks of Brush, Colo., and Russell Sparks of Denver, Colo.; sisters, Genevieve Truillinger of Rosenburg, Ore., and Mary McClure of Phillipsburg; 19 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant son, mother and her husband.
Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of arrangements.



Imogene Gore

Robbie Imogene Gore, 81, of Houston, Texas, mother of Sandi Gore Evans, Augusta, died Sunday, Jan. 14, 2001.
Her funeral service will be held in the chapel of Forest Park Westheimer Funeral Home, Dairy-Ashford at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 16, 2001.
Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. until time of service. Burial will be in Forest Park Westheimer Cemetery.
Mrs. Gore was preceded in death by her husband, Henry Gore. She is survived by her daughter, Sandi Gore Evans of Augusta; son Ronald and wife Stella, of Sugar Land, Texas; sister, Frankie Nankervis of Lake Jackson, Texas, and six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.

Charlotte May Ross

Charlotte May Ross, 77, retired Augusta Medical Complex employee, died Tuesday, Jan. 9, 2001.
Visitation with family will be from 12 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Her service will be at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 12 also at Dunsford Chapel in Augusta.
Mrs. Ross leaves son, Kenneth Eugene Ross of El Dorado; daughters, Joyce Thomas of Towanda, Shirley Harding, Carol Jordan both of Augusta, Kathleen Sims of Andover; brother, Charles Bright of Wichita; sister, Virginia Matson of Augusta; 24 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by husband William E. Ross and son Charles W. Ross.
A memorial has been established with the American Diabetes Association.
