No contest plea in case which killed Augustan
Kenneth R. Williams, 38, Wichita, has entered a no,contest plea to a charge of involuntary manslaughter resulting from an early morning hit-and-run accident which killed a young man from Augusta.
Augusta High School graduate Neil Riggs, 18, was struck near the intersection of Kellogg & Bonnie Brae in East Wichita early the morning of June 16. He died later that day at the Wesley Medical Center.
Investigators said Riggs was walking eastbound on the median of Kellogg when Williams lost control of his car and struck the pedestrian.
Sentencing for Williams has been set for Jan. 9, 2003.
A memorial fund was established here following Riggs’ death and monies contributed to that fund will be used to improve the outdoor basketball court near the Augusta Municipal Swimming Pool.
