Father Dies
Chris C. Smith, 87, Hutchinson, father of Chris Smith of Augusta, died Friday at his home.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at the Fairlawn Cemetery in Hutchinson. Rev. Willard Stafford will officiate.
He was born in Crawford County, Mo.
He married Nell E. Colwell June 4, 1917 in Joplin. She preceded him in death March 23, 1978.
He was a farmer in Rice, Reno and Pawnee counties. He also served as assistant street commissioner in Larned. He was a cement contractor in Hutchinson. He was retired from the state highway department.
Survivors also include two other sons, Lawrence N. Smith of Hutchinson and Kenneth E. Smith of California; daughters, Fern Cooper of Hutchinson; 16 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

L.P. Schauf Dies At 81
Leo P. Schauf, 81, Conway Springs, father of Marcella Leppke and brother of Roman Schauf, both of Augusta, died Monday at a Conway Springs care home.
His service will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at the St. Joseph Catholic Church there. Rev. Robert K. Larson will officiate and burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association, in care of the First National Bank in Conway Springs.
He was born Sept. 24, 1901 in Garden Plaine to Pete and Roberta Schauf.
He married Pauline Becker Jan. 12, 1926 in Tipton. She survives.
He was a retired farmer and stockman.
Other survivors include sons, Edwin of Burden, Norbert of Parsons, Ernest of Newton, Herman of Wichita, Robert of Oklahoma City, Okla., and Pete of Liberal; daughters, Delores Chapman of Wichita, Erma Orth of Andale, Maxine Henning of Kaufman, Texas; brothers, Ollie of Colwich, Walt of Wichita and Albert of Clearwater; sisters, Helen Marx of Wichita, Sophie Grelinger of Beloit; 40 grandchildren and 30 great-grandchildren.
Three children preceded him in death.

N.E. Perkins Dies At 46
Nellie Elizabeth Perkins, 46, Route 2, died yesterday at the St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Her service will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Dunsford Funeral Home.
Grandson Dies At 29
Larry Gene Mayes, 29, Protection, grandson of Hattie Klein of Augusta, died there April 2.
His service will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
He was born Jan. 10, 1954 in El Dorado to Bruce and Bonnie Arlene Carner Mayes.
He married Jana Hartman Dec. 4, 1962 in Bartlesville, Okla. She survives.
He was a roustabout in the oil fields.
Other survivors include a daughter, Shannon of Adrian, Mo.; father, Bruce Mayes of Adrian; mother, Bonnie Furgeson of Protection; brothers Jerry of Grain Valley, Mo., and Mark of Protection; a half brother, Bradley Furgeson of Adrian; sister, Debbie Mayes of Protection; a half sister, Bonnie Furgeson of Protection and grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Mayes of Sand Springs, Okla.

Rites Friday For Perkins
Nellie Elizabeth “Beth” Perkins, 46, Route 2, died Tuesday, April 5, at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.

She was born July 11, 1936 in Canton to Frank and Wilda Brown Griffith.
She married Alvin Gerald Perkins Oct. 13, 1967 in Norman, Okla. He survives.
She was a Beech Aircraft employee for 10 years.
Other survivors include sons, Steve Perkins of Wichita and Richard and Jay Lewis, both of Augusta; daughters, Arletta Wilson, Roxann Meeks, Beverly Perkins, Cindy Lawson, all of Augusta, and Debbie Rogers, Alamagordo, N.M., Idena “Deanie” Bird of Wichita; her mother, Wilda Christopher of Augusta; brothers, Lester Christopher of Rose Hill, Curtis Griffith of Augusta and Earl Griffith of Wichita; sister, Helen Litchman of Salina and 15 grandchildren.

Larry G. Mayes
A funeral service for Larry Gene Mayes, 29, of Protection will be held at 2 o’clock tomorrow afternoon at the Dunsford Funeral Home chapel in Augusta. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Mayes died Easter Sunday, April 3, at Protection, according his mother, and he is survived by a half-brother, Bradley Mayes of Adrian, Mo., and a half-sister, Crystal Furgeson of Protection.
