Former Augustan Died Yesterday
Magdalena Shirk, Los Altos, Calif., formerly of Augusta, died there yesterday.
A memorial service will be there at 10 a.m. tomorrow, according to Mr. and Mrs. Clovis Cash of Augusta.
Mrs. Shirk and her husband, Rev. R.R. Shirk, lived in Augusta for a number of years. He served as pastor of the First Baptist Church here from 1936 to 1943.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna Stinson. Augustans who may want to contact here should writer to Dr. and Mrs. Edward Stinson, 26444 Taffe Road, Los Altos Hills, Calif., 94022.
Father Dies In Oklahoma
Asa “Bill” Thurman, 85, Aline, Okla., father of Karen Gray of Augusta, died at a Fairview, Okla., hospital Monday.
His service was at 4 p.m. today at the Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard.
He was born Sept. 14, 1897 in the Indian Territory in Oklahoma.
He was a retired carpenter.
Other survivors include his wife, Alpha Thurman of Aline; sons, James Thurman of Wichita, John Thurman of Rock, Ark.; another daughter, Kay Howell of Howard; brothers, Jim Thurman of Af-ton, Okla., Jack Thurman and George Thurman, both of Enid, Okla., and a sister, Alice Milligan of Downey, Calif.

Graveside Rites For Johnston
Randall C. Johnston, 31, Towanda, son of Edgar Cox of Augusta, died Wednesday morning in the Butler County Jail.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Towanda Cemetery. Rev. Wayne Sharp will officiate.
He was born June 12, 1951 in El Dorado.
Besides his father, other survivors include his parents, David and Norma McGahan Johnston of Wichita; a son, R.C. Johnston Jr. of Paola; two daughters, Michelle Johnston of Independence and Lisa Johnston of Paola; a brother, Stephen Johnston of Houston, Texas; a sister, Ricqua Johnston of Fort Meyers, Fla.; grandmother, Mildred Campbell of El Dorado, and two aunts, Grace Mills of Wichita and Rosetta Bohon of Augusta.
Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado is in charge of arrangements.

Mary Derrick Dies At 64
Mary Alice Derrick, 1519 Washington, died today at the Augusta Medical Complex.
A cremation is planned and a memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Monday at the Dunsford Funeral Home.
Memorials have been established with the American Cancer Society and the Kansas Lung Association.
She was born July 31, 1918 in El Dorado to Clarence and Zana Emma Chalender King.
She married Odis J. Derrick Oct. 10, 1942 in Beeville, Texas.
He survives.
She was a retired social worker.
Other survivors include a son, Thomas Edwin Derrick of Annapolis, Md.; a daughter, JoZana Smith of Augusta; a brother, Joe C. King of Wichita; a sister, Dorthea Smith of Abilene, Texas and two grandchildren.

Accident Claims Whiteman’s Life
Phil Whiteman, 28, 1129 Ohio, died Saturday in an accident at his home.
His service will be at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
Augusta police believe Whiteman’s death was an acci
Department of Safety captian George Small said a Ford Mustang apparently rolled from the back of a flatbed truck and Whiteman was pinned between the Mustang and an Oldsmobile automobile at his home. Whiteman was pronounced dead at Augusta Medical Complex by Dr. Ron Varner at 10:41 a.m.
He was born March 29, 1955 in Los Angeles, Calif., to Melvin Phillip and Shirley Ann Brown Whiteman Sr.
He married Deidre Lynn Taylor Sept. 24, 1977 in Augusta. She survives.
He worked for L.A. Knebler Concrete Co.
Other survivors include two daughters, Jessica and Angela Whiteman, both of the home; his father, Melvin Whiteman of Wichita; his mother, Shirley Branson of Oak Grove, Mo.; sisters, Teresa Hohenfeldt of Aurora, Mo., Rebecca Middleton of Mildenhall, R.A.F. Base in London, England, Holly McQuerrey of Houston, Texas; half brothers, Lee Branson and Russell Branson, both of Oak Grove; his grandmother, Diva Brown, Tujunga, Calif., and his great-grandmother, Dollie White of Arleta, Calif.
