Kenneth King funeral here 10 a.m. Friday

Farmer/rancher and politician Kenneth R. King, 72, passed away peacefully from complications due to cancer on Jan. 20, 2003, at his home in southeast Butler County, surrounded by his family.
His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 24 at the First United Methodist Church of Augusta, 2420 N. Ohio Street. A graveside service will follow at Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado.
Visitation with family will be possible at Dunsford Funeral Home on Thursday, Jan. 23, from 5 to 7 p.m. A Masonic service will be held immediately following visitation.
Kenneth was born in Wichita
and has resided in Butler County all his life.
He attended Augusta High School and graduated from Leon High School in 1948. After high school he joined the Naval Reserves.
In 1953, Kenneth married Ruth Jean Schneider of Augusta.
Kenneth started his business career in King & Petersen Tractor Service, doing dirt work in the construction, farming, and oil field industries.
In 1961 he took over the family farm in Bloomington Township and established him-
self as a life-long farmer/rancher, raising wheat and beef cattle. Kenneth had a passion for politics and in 1978 was elected to represent the 77th District in the Kansas State House of Representatives.
Kenneth was an avid pilot and airplane owner most of his life and took many memorable flying vacations with his family. In later years, he and Ruth also loved to travel in their motor home.
Kenneth was very active in community service. His accomplishments include: serving on Selective Service Board, USD
205 school board and school board president, Kansas State Board of Education, Kansas State Representative (20 years), and Kansas Turnpike Authority. He also served on Prairie State Bank Board of Directors and was a member of Joppa Masonic Lodge (50 years), Scottish Rite, Midian Shrine, and Royal Order of Jesters.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lloyd Charles and nephew, Brian Seward.
Kenneth is survived by his wife of 50 years, Ruth Jean; daughter, Kenna Sue of Valley Center; sons, Monte Lynn and wife, Deanne of Beaumont, Texas, and Steven Ray and wife, Jacqueline of Boerne, Texas;
mother, Dorothea of El Dorado; brothers, Edward of Huntsville, Ala., Charles of Fort Smith, Ark., Keith of Carson City, Nev., Donald of Richardson, Texas; grandchildren, Kenneth Charles Holsey, Kyle Allen Holsey, Michael Christopher King, Breanna Aileen King; step grandchildren, Jessica Cookson, Spencer Cookson, Michelle Holsey; numerous nephews and nieces.
Memorials have been established with Harry Hynes Hospice, 313 S. Market, Wichita, 67202, and Shriner’s Plane of Mercy.
Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta is in charge of the arrangements.
