Harold Beasley
Harold Richard Beasley, 83, Marion, ILL., formerly of Augusta, passed away Thursday, May 22, 2003.
The graveside service and burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 29, 2003, in the Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta with Rev. Terry Deaver officiating. Those wishing to attend the graveside service should gather at the cemetery prior to the time of the service.
Harold was born, February 1, 1920, in the Arnold View community of Williamson County, ILL the son of Ernest Robert and Mabel (Trout) Beasley.
He was united in marriage to Valieda Quillen, December 9, 1945, in Kansas City, KS and together they shared over fifty-two years of marriage.
Harold answered the call of this nation during WW II by serving in the United States Army in the Pacific Theater as a Sergeant with the Military Police from June 14, 1941 until May 14, 1943, and was discharged August 27, 1946.
Harold was employed for many years with the Refinery Division of the Mobil Oil Company before retiring in 1977. He was of the Methodist faith.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Kirk E. and Ann Beasley of Kansas City, Kansas; granddaughter, Anissa Beasley of Portland, OR; brother and sister-in-law, Cecil and Bernice Beasley of Peoria, AZ; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Virginia Kelly of Herrin, ILL and Peggy and Michael Pavlisin of Springfield, ILL; sister-in-law, Ruby Beasley of Crab Orchard, ILL and several nieces, nephews, cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Valieda Beasley, August 17, 1998; son, Ted R. Beasley; granddaughter, Amanda Beasley; brother, Robert E. Beasley, October 7, 1978; and one infant brother, James Mofield Beasley.
The funeral service for Harold R. Beasley was held Monday, May 26, 2003, in the Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home of Marion, with Rev. Brett Beasley officiating.
A time of visitation for family and friends was held Monday morning after 10:00 a.m. at the Wilson-
McReynolds Funeral Home in Marion. The prelude and postlude musical selections were recorded piano selections.
Special vocal selections presented were "Amazing Grace" by Jeff and Christian Beasley with pianist, Judy Davis, accompanying and "Room at the Cross" by Jeff and Christian Beasley with taped accompaniment.
In lieu of flowers the family ask that memorial contributions be given to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Contributions may be mailed in care of Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, P.O. Box 370, Marion, ILL 62959.
James Pottorff
James P. Pottorff, 74, Wichita, retired cattle rancher and farmer, died Friday, May 23, 2003 at Via Christi-St.Francis Hospital, Wichita. He was born Nov. 26, 1928 in Wichita to the late Lisle John and Anne R. Carney Pottorff.
Mass of Christian Burial and was held yesterday at St. James Catholic Church in Augusta. Interment followed in Calvary Cemetery, Augusta.
He was a graduate of Wichita Cathedral High School and attended Kansas State University earning an Associate Degree of Applied Science. Mr. Pottorff was a veteran of the Army, serving during the Korean War. He was a 4th degree Knight of Columbus and served as district deputy, president of Rock Creek Joint Watershed District Board. He also served on the Rock Creek Township Board, Douglass Public Library Board and Douglass Fire Board.
On Dec. 20,1951, he married Catherine I. Stover at Arkansas City. She survives.
Also surviving: brother, Rev. Lisle J. Pottorff Jr. of Douglass; sons and daugh-ters-in-law, James P. Jr. and Judy of Lawrence, Richard M. of Sunnyvale, Calif., Michael L. and Cindy of Lawrence, Mark D. and Peggy of Sgt. Bluff, Iowa, Stephen L. of Great Bend, Timothy A. and Meaghan of Carpentersville, ILL.; daughter and son-in-law, Mary E. and Tim Hill of Burnsville, Minn.; 12 grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to St. James Catholic School and Douglass Public Library.
Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta had charge of the arrangements.
