Don Whitlock Dies At 53
Don Whitlock, 53, McPherson, formerly of Augusta, died last night at his home.
His service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at the First Baptist Church in McPherson. Rev. Tim Worthington will officiate and burial will be in the McPherson Cemetery.
He will lie in state from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Ball & Son Funeral Home in McPherson.
A memorial has been established with the Don Whitlock Photography Scholarship in care of McPherson Bank & Trust.
He was born June 4, 1929 in Augusta to Porter A. and Mary Nelson Whitlock.
He married Irene Graves June 3, 1951 in Augusta. She survives.
He grew up in Augusta and owned and operated Don’s Photo Studio here for a number of years before moving to McPherson in 1956. He was owner and operator of Don’s Camera there.
Bob Sayers leased the studio here before Breck and Eileen Lewis purchased it in 1959. They owned and operated Breck’s Studio here for many years.
He was a member of the First Christian Church in McPherson. He was chairman of the McPerson County Republican Committee, a board member of the McPherson Chamber of Commerce, past president of the state photographers’ association, and a former McPherson County Commissioner.
Survivors include two sons, Don W. Whitlock of Topeka and Steve Whitlock of Santa Monica, Calif., and a brother, Tom of Las Alamedas, Calif.
The family home is at 401 S. Hartup, McPherson, Kan., 67460.

McDaniel Dies At 90
Harry E. McDaniel, 90, Rock, died May 5 at Newton Memorial Hospital in Winfield.
His service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Douglass United Methodist Church. Rev. John Martin will officiate and burial will be at the Highland Cemetery in Winfield.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association and the Douglass Public Library.
He was born in Rosalia Oct. 22, 1892 to Elton and Lottie Banks McDaniel.
He married Ida Spires in 1922 in Rock.
In May 8, 1943 he married Marie Witmer in Winfield. She survives.
He owned the grain elevator at Rock for 42 years. Later he also owned grain elevators at Akron, Cambridge, Dalton and Rome.
He was president of the Rock Creek Watersheed from 1959 until retiring in March of 1983.
He served with the navy during World War I.
He was a charter member of the American Legion Post in Douglass and three years ago he was presented with his 60 year pin and certificate. He was also a member of the American Legion Past Commander Club of Wichita for more than 20 years.
He was a member of the Rock United Methodist Church and
was a trustee at the time of his death.
Other survivors include a son, Wallace of Wellington; daughters, Naida Waples of Douglass, Kay Vinyard of Wichita, a stepson, William Witmer of Winfield; stepdaughters, Melba Taylor of Tulsa, Okla., Emily Siroky of Pratt; brothers, Ray of Modesto, Calif., and Lyle of Winfield; a sister, Cora Meyer of Rock; 15 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Father Dies In El Dorado
James C. Gray Jr., 41, El Dorado, father of Lonnie C. and Jimmy J. Gray, both of Leon, died Thursday at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
His service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Park Avenue Baptist Church in El Dorado. Dr. Ed Franklin will officiate and burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
He was born Dec. 7, 1941 in Pleasant Hill, Mo., to James C. and Dorothy Holder Gray Sr.
He was a retired Coleman Co., employee and was a member of the Pentacostal Lighthouse Church in El Dorado.
Other survivors include daughters, Cindy J. Toedman, Shelly K. Gray, Candy Renee Gray and his father, James Gray Sr., all of El Dorado.
Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado is in charge of arrangements.

D.A. Winters Dies At 83
D.A. Winters, 83, Route 1, died Friday at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
His service was at 2 p.m. today at the Old Mission Mortuary in Wichita. Rev. Leonard Cowan officiated and entombment was in the Mission Chapel Mausoleum.
A memorial has been established with the American Heart Association.
He was born April 29, 1900 in Leon to Lee and Cora McCullough Winters.
He married Dena Bellows Winters. She survives.
He was a retired liquor distributor.
He was a member of the Albert Pike Lodge 303 AF&AM in Wichita.
Other survivors include a son, Dwight Winters of Wichita.
