Eugene Safford
Edward Spencer Safford, i 86, Sarasota, Fla., grandson of S.J. Safford who once operated a lumber yard in . Augusta, died Nov.7, 2003 at his home.
His wife Elizabeth and son Clay preceded him in death.
He is survived by his daughters, Stephanie Safford and Jeanne Marshall, his son-in-law David Gale, three grandsons - Tucker Marshall, Hunter Gale and Cutter Gale, and great-granddaughter Elizabeth Marshall. Mr. Safford's sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy Jeanne and John Jones, reside in Tucson.
Memorial donations may be made to Hospice of Southwest Florida or the First Presbyterian Church on Oak Street in Sarasota. Fla.
Hazel F. Thompson
Hazel F. Thompson, 92, Augusta, died Monday, Nov. 17, 2003.
Her funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 19, at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
Mrs. Thompson was born on Dec. 24, 1911 in Oblong, 111.
She married Hubert H. Thompson in 1929. He preceded her in death in 1997.
She and her husband operated several grocery stores in the oil fields and they returned to Augusta in the late 1950’s, where she worked at Calvert’s Department Store.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Carlson Funeral Home of El Dorado has charge of the arrangements.

Richard I. “Dick” Smith, 81, Wichita, retired commercial oil salesman, father and father-in-law of Rick W. and Debbie Smith of Augusta, died Wednesday, Nov. 19, 2003.
His service was held today at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Wichita.
Other survivors include: wife, Helen M. Smith; brothers, Kenneth of Concordia, Donald of Cawker City, Robert of Glen Elder; sisters, Alice Brownell of Concordia, Nora Peters of Phoenix, Ariz.; one grandson.
A memorial has been established at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 307 E. Central, Wichita, 67202.
Downing & Lahey Mortuary East of Wichita has charge of the arrangements.
Billie Hubbart
Billie Verlee (Hoar) Hubbart, 84, Augusta, retired Cessna Aircraft riveter, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2003.
Her funeral service will be 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 21, in the chapel of Hillside Funeral Home Augusta.
Visitation will be possible between 6 and 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at the funeral home.
Mrs. Hubbart leaves her husband, Loyd L. Hubbart of the home; sons, Leslie “Butch” Hubbart of Augusta, Jerry Hubbart of LaBelle, Fla., and Linton “Linnie: Hubbart, of Iowa Park, Texas; daughters Connie Zwahl of Augusta and Marilyn Williams of Andover. She also leaves 14 grandchildren and 26 greatgrandchildren.
She was a life member of Eastern Star 287 in Whiting, a member of Kansa Travelers.
Preceding her in death were her parents, a daughter Deania Dickinson, two brothers, and two grandchildren.
Memorials to Meals On Wheels and/or the Sunflower Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association have been suggested and may be left at Hillside Funeral Home.
