Ex-Augustan Dies At 71
A. V. Chalfant Jr., 71, Okalhoma City, Okla., formerly of Augusta, died May 29 at a hospital there.
His service will be at 2:30 p.m. Wendesday at Resurrection Cemetery Chapel. Rev. Dwain Sandlin will officiate and burial will be there.
A memorial has been established with the Oklahoma Heart Association and the Oklahoma League for the Blind.
He was born Dec. 25, 1911 in Chickasha, Okla., to Aurd Ver-nall and Clara Mae Goff Chalfant.
He married Vivian Martin. She survives.
He was a retired funiture store owner. He was a member of the Rotary Club in Oklahoma City and served with the navy during World War II.
Other survivors include a daughter, Sondra Hawkins of Amarillo, Texas; three sisters, Maurine Ruth Ven of Pigeon Forge, Tenn, Wilma Rose Frey of Chickasha and Vera Kincan-non of Enid, Okla.; two granddaughters and one great-granddaughter.
Smith-Kernkey-Funte Funeral Home in Oklahoma City is in charge of arrangements.

Hubert Stanhope Dies At Hospital
Hubert Stanhope, 67, Benton, died Monday at the Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
His service will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at the Central Baptist Church in rural Augusta. Burial will be in the Benton Cemetery.
He was born Oct. 23, 1915 in Sedan to Oliver and Alda Ramsey Stanhope.
He married Cuba Dorsey Dec. 8, 1938 in Moiline. She survives.
He was a Beech Aircraft Co., employee before his retirement.
Other survivors include four sons, Dean and Larry, both of Benton, Hal and Mike, both of the home; three daughters, Donna Good and Linda Overman, both of Benton, and Pat Stanhope of Wichita; 10 grandchildren.

Ex-Undersheriff Dies At 65
John Fee, a former Butler County undersheriff, died Sunday at Susan B. Allen Memorial Hospital in El Dorado.
His service will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Burial will be at Sunset Lawn Cemetery there.
A memorial has been established with the First United Presbyterian Church in El Dorado.
He was born Oct. 6, 1917 in Stafford to Elmer and Clara Ball Fee.
He married Helen Mock in Lyons Nov. 26, 1938. She survives.
He served with the Kansas Highway Patrol until his retirement in 1974. From 1976 to 1977 he served as the county’s undersheriff. From 1979 to 1982, he was the transport officer for the sheriff’s department.
Other survivors include a son, Douglas of El Dorado; a brother, Kenneth of Paso Robles, Calif.; three sisters, Velma Volker of Stafford, Margaret Anne Fee of Minneola and Vada Williams of Mullinvale.

Ron Holmes Dies At 83
Ronald G. Holmes, 83, Augusta, died Monday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His service will be at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Burial will be in the Blankinship Cemetery in Rosalia.
Memorials have been established with the Augusta Christian Church and the Joppa Lodge in El Dorado.
Masonic services will be conducted at the gravesite.
He was born Sept. 27, 1899 near Augusta to Ulysses Grant and Anna Stockton Holmes.
He married Clarinda Carlman Jun 6, 1923 in Bodarc. She died June 16, 1948.
He married Flora Miller Sept. 30, 1958 in Augusta. She survives.
He was an oil field pumper for Dunn and Street before his retirement.
Other survivors include three daughters, Elaine Triemer of Danville, Calif., Pauline Draugt of Wichita and Ruth Anne King of Towanda; a son, George of Norwich, 10 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Clara Dennett Dies At 88
Clara Ann Dennett, 88, 2100 Ohio, died Sunday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her service was at 11 a.m. today at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Richard Bacon, pastor of the First Christian Church, officiated and burial was in the Seltzer Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Walnut Valley nursing home.
She was born Aug. 14, 1894 in Rose Hill to Andrew and Phoebe Branson Lackey.
She married Joe Henry Dennett Feb. 21, 1916 in El Dorado. He preceded her in death in 1959.
This homemaker leaves a son, Edwin Dennett of Augusta; two daughters, Thelma Armstrong of Denver, Colo., and Eva Burnham of Port Townsend, Wash.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Two brothers preceded her in death.

His funeral arrangements are pending at Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.

Funeral services for Robert Buettgenbach of Augusta, who died Sunday in an air show crash in England, are pending at the Dunsford Funeral Home of Augusta.
