Phillip W. Tennyson

Phillip Waldine Tennyson, 77, rural Augusta, died on Friday, Dec. 10, 2004.
His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 15 Downing & Lahey Mortuary. Burial will be in the Kechi Cemetery.
Visitation from 6 to 7:30 p.m. this evening at Downing & Lahey Mortuary.
He was born on April 4, 1927, in Amarillo, Texas to Dean and Vivian (Hanes) Tennyson, who preceded him in death.
After starting employment at Boeing at the age of 16, Phillip enlisted in the United States Navy in 1994 and served on the island of Guam during World War II. Upon an honorable discharge from the Navy, he returned to Kansas and in 1947 he began his 38 year career with Conoco Oil Company, working in Valley Center, Palco, Jennings, Plainville, and Pratt. After raising his family in Kansas, he moved with his wife Verla, to Enid, Okla, in 1980 and then on to Tuttle, Okla, for a brief time. He retired as an oil production supervisor in 1985 at the age of 58. Upon his retirement, he and his wife moved back to Kansas, living near Augusta. In his 19 years of retirement, he enjoyed observing the stock market, attending auctions, collecting antiques and tending his acreage east of Andover. He was a loving husband, father and was especially interested in all of his grandchildren's careers and educational endeavors. He regularly attended their sports activities and was proud to be a greatgrandfather. He also loved dancing, storytelling, and listening to live music at the Augusta Senior Center, where his oldest son plays the bass guitar. _______
In addition to his wife of 56 years, Verla (Brandner) Tennyson, he is survived by: sons, Terry and wife, Melanie of Augusta, Randy and wife, Pam of Andover; daughters, Debbie Rice and husband, Mike of Wamego, Kathy Brown of Las Vegas, Nev.; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; brothers, Lynn and wife, Marcene of Tulsa, Okla., Elvin and wife, Rose of Valley Center, Garry and wife, Sherry of
Colleyville, Texas, Norman and wife, Sharon of Newton, Juanita Dennett and husband, Harold of Palco, Wanda Schieflebein of Phoenix, Ariz., Karen Browning of Olathe; sister-in-law, Gwen Tennyson of Linnwood, Wash.; many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by brothers, Orville and Duaine; brother-in-law, Kenneth Schiefelbein; son in-law, Grover Holden.
Memorial donations may be made to the Augusta Senior Center.
Arrangements are under the direction of Downing & Lahey Mortuary of Wichita.

Gertrude Lister

Gertrude A. (Scobee) Lister, 97, Howard, sister of Robert Scobee of Augusta, died Sunday, Dec. 12, 2004.
Her funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 18, at the First Baptist Church in Howard.
Other survivors include: sons, Roy of Lindsborg and Harold of Burlingame; daughters, Alma Daymude of Arkansas City, Virginia Hulsey of Ft. Smith, Ark., and Wilma Lister of of Winfield; sisters, Myrtle Hayden of Pittsburg, Pearl Bright of Valley Center, and Marie Boyd of LaVerne, Calif.; 16 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson.
Memorial established with the First Baptist Church of Howard.
Funeral arrangements are being made with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
