Labor Day crash takes life of teen

Chelsea Gerbitz, 15, Augusta, died of injuries suffered in a one-vehicle accident early Monday morning.
The accident occurred approximately 0.3 mile north of SW 120th Street on Tawakoni Road, southwest of Augusta.
Gerbitz, driving a 2-door 2005 Hyundai automobile, lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree in the west ditch.
She and her passenger, 18-year-old James Brant of Augusta, were transported to Wesley Medical Center in Wichita. Brant reportedly escaped serious injury.
Funeral information was not available locally this morning.
The vehicle is registered to Dan Gerbitz and was towed from the accident scene by Dave’s Salvage of Augusta.
Sheriff Craig Murphy said the accident was logged by his office at 1:02 a.m. Monday.
According to the Kansas Highway Patrol there was only one traffic death over the Labor Day weekend, from 6 p.m. Friday, Sept. 2, to midnight Monday, Sept. 5.

away on Monday Sept. 5, 2005. Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at
Holy Cross Luthern Church, 600 N. Greenwich Rd., Wichita.
Visitation with the family will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 8, in
Garden Chapel of Watson Funeral Home, 3201 S. Webb Rd., in Wichita.
She is survived by her parents, Dan and Janell Gerbitz, sister, Chancy Rae Gerbitz ; grandparents, Ed and Eleanor Bolain, and Mel and Alice Wyssman, all of Derby; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established with the Chelsea Gerbitz Scholarship Fund, which may be sent to any Bank of America location.
Arrangements are under the direction of Watson Funeral Home in Wichita.

Carol Yvonne Jordan

Carol Yvonne Jordan, 52, Augusta, died on Friday, Sept. 9, 2005.
Her memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 14, at Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta.
Carol was born on July 30, 1953 in El Dorado, the daughter of William Elliott and Charlotte May (Lewis) Ross. She worked as a house cleaner and bartender.
She is survived by four children; Jimmy Ray, Kendra, Sylvia, and Sandra; sisters, Joyce Thomas of
Towanda, Shirley Harding of Augusta, and Kathy Sims of Andover; brother, Kenny Ross of Augusta; special niece and friend, Crystal (Albert) Hagebusch.
She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Charles P. Jordan II, and brother-in-law, Floyd Sims Jr.
Memorial donations may go to Total Homecare & Hospice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta.
