Velda Geneva Dawson

Velda Geneva Dawson, 80, Oklahoma City, formerly of Augusta, died on Monday, Jan. 2, 2006.
Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Jan. 6, at the First Church of the Nazarene in Bethany, Okla. Burial will be at Resurrection Cemetery near Oklahoma City.
Visitation for friends and family will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, at Mercer-Adams Funeral Service in Bethany.
Velda was born on Aug. 22, 1925 in Augusta/Browntown, the daughter of Doan Marion Maness and Neda Geneva Maness.
She attended grade school in Browntown and graduated from Augusta High School in 1942. Shortly thereafter, like
countless others in her generation, Velda served her country faithfully during World War II. She became a “Rosie the Riveter by riveting together B-29 bombers in Wichita. During those early years of the war, she began writing to an airman stationed in London, England, whom she had known while a young school girl.
In 1944, one year before the war ended, Velda married her husband of 61 years, Paul Dawson, on a snowy December night in Madison, Wis. After leaving Madison, Velda and Paul lived in Sioux Falls, S.D.; LaJunta, Colo.;
Indianapolis, Ind., where their daughter, Debbie was born; Bethany, Okla.; and for the last 45 years of her life, Oklahoma City.
Velda and Paul were lifelong members of the Nazarene Church and were charter members of
Lakeview Park Church of the Nazarene in Oklahoma City.
Velda worked for American First Trust Company and Mutual Federal Savings and Loan, but the loves of her life were her husband, her daughter, her family, and her church.
Her survivors include: her beloved husband, Paul; her only child and son-in-law, Debbie and Frank Jeldy of Oklahoma City; grandson, Rick Jeldy and his wife, Krissa of Escondido, Calif.; brother, Gene Maness and wife, Bonnie of Fort Worth, Texas; sister, Donna and husband, Wes Bell of Garnett.
She was preceded in death by her brothers, Joe and Ed Maness and her sisters, Maxine Zook and Beatrice Dawson.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mercer-Adams Funeral Service of Bethany, Okla.

Twila I. Hanes Thomas

Twila I. Hanes Thomas, 105, Douglass, homemaker and accomplished artist, died on Monday, Jan. 2, 2006.
Her funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Thursday at Douglass United Methodist Church.
Her survivors include: daughters, Verda Hanes of Wichita, Genevee Haskin and Ellouise Gimple, both of Douglass; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren.
Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home of Douglass has charge of the arrangements.

Bonnie La Verle McKinney

Bonnie La Verle McKinney, 72, Towanda, died on Monday, Jan. 2, 2006.
Service arrangements were pending this morning with Hillside Funeral Home in Augusta.

Margaret McKercher

Margaret McKercher, 77, Augusta, passed away on Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2006.
Arrangements were pending this morning with Dunsford Funeral Home in Augusta.

Loren Jay Brinkmeyer

Loren Jay Brinkmeyer, 80, El Dorado, retired Butler Community College professor, brother of William Brinkmeyer of Douglass, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 8, 2006.
His funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 12, at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado.
Other survivors are: son, Karl of El Dorado; brother Dean of Topeka; sister, Mary Etta Moore of Greeley, Colo.
Arrangements under the direction of Kirby-Morris Funeral Home of El Dorado.

Rose Marie Bernhardt

Rose Marie Bernhardt, 93, Herington, sister of Marjorie Hammond of Augusta, died on Saturday, Jan. 7, 2006.
Her funeral service was held this morning, Jan. 10, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church near Herington.
Other survivors include: son, Willis of Manhattan; sister, Mabel Henricks of Herington.
Carlson-Becker Funeral Home of Hope handled the arrangements.
