Laura Shryock, Mayor’s Mother, Dies At AMCI
Laura Jean Shryock, 85, mother of Augusta mayor Bob Shryock, died Friday at the Augusta Medical Complex.
Her funeral service was 10 o’clock this morning at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Burl Allison Jr. officiated and burial was in Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born Aug. 17, 1898 in Illinois to John F. and Lily Treadway Poindexter.
She married Charles Franklin Shryock April 1, 1919 in Robinson, Ill. He preceded her in death in 1976.
She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Survivors include two other sons, Meredith Shryock of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Sam Shryock of Augusta; a daughter, Jean Williams of Haysville; two brothers, Ted Poindexter of McCook, Neb., and Charles Poindexter of Trenton, Neb.; two sisters, Maxine Algrim of Augusta and Margaret Albright of Topeka; 18 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Alfred S. Morgan, 86, of Merced, Calif., a former El Dorado resident, will be 2 o’clock Wednesday afternoon at the Sunset Lawn Cemetery in El Dorado. Morgan died July 15 in California. The Carlson Funeral Home is in charge.

Floe Ketch Dies At 85
Floe Elizabeth Ketch, 85, 43 Cliff Drive, died Sunday at St. Francis Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral service will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Augusta First United Methodist Church. Rev. Robert Brooks will officiate and burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Augusta First United Methodist Church.
She was born April 13, 1898 in Palmyra Township in Iowa to Silas W. and Angeline Chambers Alexander.
She married Earl E. Ketch March 4, 1919 in Des Moines, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 1941.
She was a member of the Augusta First United Methodist Church and a 50-year member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
Survivors include a daughter, Winifred Ketch of Augusta.
Two brothers and four sisters preceded her in death.

Grandchild Dies
Nichole West, one-year-old granddaughter of Allen and Billie Fretz of Route 1, died last night at an U.S. Air Force hospital in Albuquerque, N.M. Services are pending.
She was born Dec. 4, 1981 in Albuquerque to Sgt. and Mrs. Terry West.
Her parents, Terry and Tammy West of Albuquerque and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Jim West of El Dorado, survive.

Gary Vee Punke Dies At 50
Gary Vee Punke, 50, 521 1/2 State, died Monday at Knutson Manor nursing home in El Dorado.
Services are private. Rev. Burl Allison Jr., will officiate and burial will be at the Elmwood Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the American Cancer Society.
He was born Oct. 30, 1932 in Corwith, Iowa to Earl and Leona Ward Punke.
He married Sharon Stinett. She preceded him in death.
He was a maintenance employee.
He served in the U.S. Navy.
Survivors include his mother, Leona of Augusta; a brother, Verle of Torrington, Wyo., and a sister, Earlene Hale of Augusta.

Grandmother Dies At 90
Charlotte M. Langvardt, 90, Alta Vista, grandmother of Kay Kletcka of Augusta, died yesterday at the Morris County Hospital in Council Grove.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Alta Vista Baptist Church. Rev. Keith Jacobsen will officiate and burial will be in the Alta Vista Cemetery.
A memorial has been established with the Alta Vista Baptist Church.
Other survivors include a daughter, Edith Houtz of Alta Vista; sons, Frank Langvardt of the home and Harry Langvardt of Denver, Colo.; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
The Kendall Funeral Home in Council Grove is in charge of arrangements.
