Thomas Eckley, Sr.

Tom Eckley, Sr., 60, Towanda, formerly of Augusta, passed away on Friday, Feb. 10, 2006.
Services were held this morning at Hope Community Church in Andover, followed by a graveside service this afternoon at Greenwood Cemetery in Eureka.
Tom was born in Los Angeles, Calif, on Aug. 5, 1945, the son of Richard and Mary B. (Steele) Eckley. He retired as Finance Director at Scholfield Brothers and was former owner of Early Bird in Augusta. On Feb. 26, 1983, he married Mary Campbell Brown in Montevista, Colo. She survives.
Other survivors include: sons, Tom Eckley, Jr. and his wife, Jeania of Wichita, Terry Brown and his wife, Janet of Burden, Brent Brown and his wife, Dawn of Rifle, Colo.; daughters, Connie Jo Sharpe and her husband, Aaron of Haxtun, Colo., Lorrie Yoshinaga of Denver, Colo.; brothers, Dick of Sidney, Neb., Jim of Topeka, and John of Farmington, N.M.; sisters, Susan Steele and Polly
Steele of Seattle, Wash.; grandchildren, Josh, Nicole, Kelli, Adam, Sam, Amanda, Branton, Alex, Morgan, Hope, Anna, and Ian; great grandchildren, Alysa, David and Xaviour.
Memorials may go to Hope Community Church.
Arrangements were under the direction of Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta.

John C. DeWitt

John C. DeWitt, 63, Chanute, formerly of Augusta, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 9, 2006.
Graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
Family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. this evening at Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute.
His survivors include: daughters, Diana Wools of Pittsburg and Amanda
Myers of Augusta; sons, Jeremy DeWitt and John DeWitt, both of El Dorado
and John R. DeWitt of Leon; brother, Jim DeWitt of Benton; sister, Gloria Chessbrough of Evert, Mass.; 12 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Verl DeWitt and Mark DeWitt.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Johnson Chapel in Chanute.

Merideth Powell

Merideth G. Powell, 77, Coffeyville, sister of Carolyn Watson of Augusta, died on Tuesday, Feb. 14, 2006.
Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, at Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Chapel in Coffeyville.
Other survivors include: sons, David and Kris, both of Coffeyville; brother, Ernest Shetler of Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren.
Arrangements under the direction of Penwell-Gabel Ford-Wulf-Bruns Mortuary of Coffeyville.


Freda Cooper

Freda Cooper, 90, Wichita, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006.
Service arrangements were pending this morning with Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta.

Frank A. Johnson

Frank A. Johnson, 65, Augusta, retired Country Solitaire singer, died on Thursday, Feb. 16, 2006.
Funeral service was held on Monday at Kirby-Morris Funeral Home in El Dorado.
He was survived by his wife, Judy.

Freda Cooper

Freda Cooper, 90, Wichita, homemaker, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, Feb. 12, 2006.
Viewing from 9 to 10 a.m.; service at 10 a.m., both at South City Southern Baptist Church in Wichita.
Burial will be at 10 a.m. on Thursday in the Melbourne (Ark.) Cemetery.
Freda was born in Melbourne, Ark. on June 28, 1915, to Willy Pleasant and Bertha Stella (Hare) Grills.
She was a member of Immanuel Baptist Church.
Her survivors include: son, Vern and wife, Elaine of Augusta; daughters, Ann (Galen) Graves,
Lea (Travis) Stephens, Kathryn (Floyd) Smith,
Joyce Metzinger, Debbie (Dick) Strickert; 14 grandchildren; 16 greatgrandchildren;
one brother, one sister, and a number of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Rufus; one great-grandson; one brother and one sister.
Memorials to Trinity Hospice 1938 N. Woodlawn, Wichita, 67208.
Arrangements are under the direction of Headley Funeral Chapel in Augusta.
