Carol Whiteside

Alice Carol Steiger Allison Whiteside, 91, Highland Village, Texas, formerly of Augusta, passed away on Sunday, April 30, 2006.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 4, at Rambling Oaks Courtyard Assisted Living, Highland Village, Texas. Interment of ashes will be on June 7, 2006 in Augusta.
Carol was born on July 28, 1914, in El Dorado, the daughter of Alice Belle Yelley and Frank Henry Steiger.
She was a member of the National Honor Society in high school, graduating third in her class from El Dorado High School in 1932. A lifelong accomplished musician, Carol began taking piano lessons when she was in first grade. She accompa-
nied many musical groups and soloists during her school years, played cello in the high school string quartet and orchestra, and sang in the Girls’ Glee Club.
In 1936, Carol received her Bachelor of Music degree with a major in organ from Ottawa University.
While attending Ottawa, she was elected a colleague of the American Guild of Organists, and was a member of the Ottawa University Chorus,
the Women’s Glee Club, was a soprano in the college Mixed Quartet and played cello in the University Orchestra.
Additionally, she played organ for the Episcopal Church on Sunday mornings and at the First Baptist Church Sunday evenings.
Following graduation, Carol taught orchestra and vocal music for one year at Nortonville.
In 1971, Carol received a Master in Music Education with a major in voice from Wichita State University.
On June 28, 1937, Alice Carol Steiger married David Edward Allison, the son of Perna Marie Diebolt and Burl Allison, Sr. The wedding took place on the 25th wedding anniversary of the bride’s parents. David preceded her in death on Oct. 20, 1972. Carol and David lived in Augusta all of their married life. She was the organist at the Augusta Methodist Church for 35 years from 1938-1973 and taught elementary vocal music at Lincoln and Robinson Elementary Schools for 21 years. She was also a member of the Women’s Society for Christian Service, a member and president of. Sorosis Club and completed the term on the library board for her late husband.

Following the death of her husband, Carol moved to Bella Vista, Ark. in 1975. While there, she met Fay Allen Whiteside, the son of Alice Carrie Bates and George Alfred Whiteside, and they were married in Bella Vista on Sept. 30, 1979.
They lived in Bella Vista until Allen’s death on Dec. 13, 1998.
While in Bella Vista, Carol was a member and served as president of the Association of Concordia Residents in Bella Vista,
president of Bella Vista Organ Belles, president and soloist of Bella Vista’s Women’s Chorus, a member of Northwest Arkansas Chorale and American Guild of Organists.
She also served as organist of the Bella Vista Community Church for 14 years and was a member of the church choir for 20 years.
In 2001, Carol moved to Flower Mound, Texas, where she lived at Atria Assisted Living until moving to Rambling Oaks Courtyard Assisted Living in May, 2005.
Her survivors include: daughters, Patricia Carol Matheson and husband, Dennis of Pearland, Texas, and Joyce Allison Hutter and husband, Andy of Council Grove, Texas; son, Jerald Robert Allison and wife, Fay of Anchorage, Alaska;
daughter-in-law, Karen Elaine Allison of Pilot Point, Texas; step sons, Victor Allen Whiteside of Dallas,
Texas and Earl Roger Whiteside of Owasso, Okla.; brother, Frank Robert Steiger of Fresno, Calif.; eight grandchildren, David Edward Allison III and wife, Tammra of Argyle, Texas, Katherine Carol Claycomb and husband, Bob of Frisco, Texas, Sherrill Leigh Matheson of San Leon, Texas, Paul Dennis Matheson and wife, Karen of Tomball, Texas, Allen Kirk Matheson and wife, Coleen of Friendswood, Texas, Jennifer Michele Matheson and husband, Jens of Honolulu, Hawaii, Alyson Jeanne Gindler and husband, David of Georgetown, Texas, Kyla Janeen Elston and husband, Greg of Highland Village, Texas, Stephanie Louise Allison and husband, Kerry of Juneau, Alaska, and Tracy L. Allison of
Anchorage, Alaska; 24 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by: her husband and father of her children, David Edward Allison, Sr.; husband, Fay Allen Whiteside; and son, David Edward Allison, Jr.

James R. Ingalls

James R. Ingalls, 71, Leon, retired Cessna Aircraft machinist, died on Sunday, May 7, 2006.
Funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, at the Leon United Methodist Church.
His survivors are: wife, Elnor; sons, Ronnie of Augusta and Rich of Douglass; daughters, Susan Liggett of Rosalia and Joyce Haines of Waverly; brother, John of Augusta; sister, Judith Frock of Wichita.
Arrangements are under the direction of Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado.
