Fire kills dad, son
A father and his 4-year-old son were killed in a Thursday night fire at a westside mobile home park.
Neighbors said Keith Moore and son Ryan died in the blaze which erupted in the mobile home on Lot 24 of the park at 1201 Money.
The mother was reportedly visiting family and not at home when the fire started.
Augusta firefighters found the home engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene after receiving the alarm at 10:12 p.m.
After getting the fire under control, firemen found the victims.
Augusta Safety Chief Tyler Brewer said the fire is under investigation.
Friends told authorities the family’s gas had been shut off recently because they could not pay the bill. The Moores were using space heaters to keep warm.
Chief Brewer said “quite a few space heaters” were found at the fire scene. “We’re suspicious of that,” he said.
Funeral arrangements for the victims were pending this morning at the Dunsford-Zeiner Funeral Home of Augusta.
