Hattie Ina Kingsley
Hattie Ina Kingsley, 92, of Beaumont, died April 1, 2008, at the Harbor Hospice House in Beaumont, Texas.
Graveside service 1:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta. Those attending should use the 12th street entrance.
Hattie Ina McDowell Kingsley, the second child of James Stewart McDowell and Grace Arnold McDowell was born Dec. 2 1915 in the McDowell home in Haverhill. She spent her early years living in Haverhill, where she attended the Haverhill school. She attended High school in El Dorado Kansas, graduating in 1933. She continued her education by attending Junior College in El Dorado, where she obtained a teaching certificate for
elementary grades in 1935. She taught at various schools in Butler County from 1935 through 1960, with a break to marry in 1941, and later care for sons, Jim and Jerry until they attended school.
In 1950, she attended Southwestern College in Winfield to renew her teaching certificate. In 1963, the family moved to Beaumont, Texas, leaving a lifetime membership in the Haverhill Christian Church. Her first year in Texas was spent attending Lamar University to complete work on a BA Degree in the field of Education. Her first year to teach in Texas was at Vidor, followed by 14 years in Beaumont at the Amelia School fifth grade. She was a lifetime member of Eastern Star.
After retiring she spent a lot of time serving on the Meals on Wheels Committee at The First Christian Church as a cook. Hattie also taught the Stewart class at church and until late years played the piano for them. She mothered two
sons that have made her proud many ways.
She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Mitchel Kingsley of Beaumont; sons, Jerry Kingsley and his wife Jane of Beaumont, Jim Kingsley and his wife Georgia of Greensborough, NC; four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Arnold and sister, Martha and both parents.
