Dale Harper

Dale Leon Harper,66, of Norwich,
Kan., passed away Saturday, Aug. 7, 2010 with family by his side. After a courageous four-year battle with stage 4 colon cancer, he is now resting with his heavenly Father.
Viewing will be 1-8, with family 6-8 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 13, at Smith Mortuary in Derby. Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 14, at Rose Hill Christian Church, 314 N. Rose Hill Rd. in Rose Hill.
Born Oct. 29,1943 in Wichita, he was the son of Alma (Oklahoma City) and the late Ray E. Harper. He was raised on a farm near Rose Hill, where he met his wife of 45 years, Connie Dowers. Dale graduated from Rose Hill High School in 1961, earned his BS from Friends University in 1965 and received his MA in Education Administration at Wichita State University in 1987. Before retiring as principal of Bluestem High School (1991-2004), Dale taught at Elmdale (1965-67), also taught/coached at White City (1967-69) and Rose Hill High Schools (1969-87), and was principal of Stafford High School (1987-91). He returned to teaching and coaching in August 2004 at Norwich High School and retired May 2010. Dale was a son, husband, father, grandfather, teacher, coach, woodworker and devout Christian.
Dale is survived by: his wife, Connie; five children, Mandi Foltz (Mike) of Fayetteville, Ark., Britton Harper (Courtney) of Andover, Chad Harper (Katie) of Dallas, Texas, Nathan Harper (Kasey) of Las Vegas, Nev., and Adam Harper (Rachel) of Dallas, Texas; nine grandchildren; mother, Alma Renna Harper; two brothers, Thomas Raymond Harper (Vivian) of Oklahoma City, Okla, and William Lee Harper (Janet) of Fort Worth, Texas; two sisters, Oma Schrag (Dan) of Colorado Springs, Colo, and Alma Gay Gunter (James Dennis) of Newalla, Okla.; and many nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made for a scholarship to be established.



Glen H. Mitchell

Glen H. Mitchell, 90, Wichita, retired Santa Fe Railroad employee, passed away Sunday, Aug. 8,2010.
Celebration of Life will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 13, Hillside East Funeral Home, Wichita. Burial will follow at 2 p.m., at Cassoday Cemetery, Cassoday, Kan.
He served aboard the battleship USS Maryland and was a survivor of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
He is survived by: wife, Barbara; daughter, Diane Mitchell; sons, Tim (Julie) Mitchell of Wichita, Steve (Sue) Mitchell, Newton and Kirk (Patsy) Mitchell of Augusta; sister, Betty Pierce, Sedgwick; brother; Charles Mitchell, Hasty, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 31 greatgrandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren.

Melvin Alford

Melvin Alford, 84, Augusta, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2010.
Service arrangements are pending with Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta.
