Jim A. DcWitt
Jim A. DeWitt, 89, retired Augusta City street foreman, passed away, Saturday, March 5, 2011.
Viewing will be held from 1-5 p.m., visitation with family present 5 -7 p.m. Tuesday, March 8, at Dunsford-Zeiner Funeral Home, Augusta. Graveside service at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 9, at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Jim was born on Oct. 17,1921 in Cass Lake, Minn, to Henry Frank and Clara Ellen (Elliott) DeWitt. He married Dora May Maggard in Angola, Ind. on Jan. 15,1945.
Jim loved to hunt and fish and was a outstanding gardener.
Survivors include: his sons, Jim (Sheri) DeWitt of El Dorado, and Frank (Angel) DeWitt of Augusta; 8 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, son, LeRoy and 12 brothers and sisters.
Memorials may go to The Gideons International and American Lung Association, in care of Dunsford-Zeiner Funeral Home, Augusta.
Alva "Al" Herron
Alva “Al" Herron, 86, El Dorado, passed away on Feb. 28, 2011.
He was born May 15, 1924 in Muskogee, Okla. He served in the Army
Air Corps and retired from the Kansas Turnpike.
A remembrance will be held from 2-5 p.m. on Saturday, March 12, at the family farm.
Al is survived by: his wife, Doris; daughter, Tracey (Todd) Reedl; sons, Don (Linda) Herron of Austin, Texas, Dale (Jeanne) Herron of Wichita, and Jim (Augusta) Herron; 11 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brother, John Herron of TN.
He is preceded in death by sisters Violet and Lyda.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to Harry Hynes Memoria Hospice.
Baker Funeral Home, Valley Center, has charge of the arrangements.
Della M. Bates
Della M. Bates, 96, Hutchinson died March 3, 2011 at Promise Regional Medical Center in Hutchinson.
Cremation has taken place. Memorial service was held on Monday, March 7, 2011, at Elliott Mortuary in Hutchinson. A private family inurnment will be in Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta.
She Was born March 21,1914 at Mooreland, Okla., the daughter of John Jacob and Bessie Vandeventer Hoover. She moved to Hutchinson from Burrton, in 1996, having previously lived in El Dorado, Douglass, and Atlanta, Kan. She was a 1932 graduate of Mooreland (Okla.) High School and was a member of the New Life Christian Church. She had worked for Cessna during the war years and had managed the Red Cross Nutrition Mealsite at Burrton for many years. She was active with the Girl Scouts and the AARP Chapter #451.
She married Frank W. Bates on May 7,1942 in Andover. He died Feb. 4, 2003.
Survivors include: son, Wendell Bates (Sue), Hutchinson; daughters, Linda S. Rector (Arby), Johnson, and Lou Ann Bates, Bel Aire; daughter-in-law, Carol Bates, Augusta; 12 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 2 great- great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by three sons, Roger, Ronald, and Thomas Bates; and a daughter, Marilyn Bates.
Memorial contributions may be given to New Life Christian Church or Wesley Towers Health Care Activities Fund, sent in care of the Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.
