Iva M. Kingsley dies, funeral is tomorrow
Iva Marie Kingsley, 78, 1800 Washington Lane, died Saturday at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral will be at 2 o’clock Tuesday afternoon at the Dunsford Funeral Home. Rev. Robert Brooks and Rev. Burl Allison Jr. will officiate and burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery.
She was born Jan. 25, 1906, in Highland to George W. and Lola Myrtle Brown Schofield.
She married Jonathan Howard Kingsley Oct. 31, 1953, in Flagstaff, Ariz. He preceded her in death in 1967.
For 30 years, she worked for the Bureau of Indian Affairs, living on reservations and teaching Indian children.
When she moved to Augusta in the mid-1960s, she had retired from teaching. She substituted as a teacher in the Augusta school district and was a volunteer aide at Robinson Elementary.
As a member of Augusta Business and Professional Women, she began a scholarship fund that now allows the club to award money to a graduating senior.
She was also a member of the First United Methodist Church, Alpha Delta Kappa Sorority and the Butler County Retired Teachers Association.
Survivors include a brother, Franklin Brown of Wichita and a sister, Ella Epp of Rancho Santa Fe, Calif.

Vernon Trefethen
Vernon C. Trefethen, 83, Douglass, died Friday at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Wichita.
Graveside services were at 1 p.m. today at the Highland Cemetery in Wichita.
He was born April 22, 1901 in Kansas to Samuel and Hattie Burch Trefethen.
He was a retired farmer.
Other survivors include brothers, Lee of Douglass and Alfred of Denver, Colo., and a sister, Blanche Garrison of WaKeeney.

Nettie Lewis dies at hospital
Nettie Lewis, 83, Latham, died today at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita.
Her funeral will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Carlson Funeral Home in El Dorado. Burial will be in the White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Wichita.
She was born Dec. 14, 1900 in Atlanta to Leonidas and Minnie Hinson Hollingsworth.
She married Harry Lewis in 1919. He preceded her in death Dec. 23, 1948.
Survivors include a son, Harry Lewis of Latham; a sister, Sarah Pearl Steams of Jefferson City, Mo., and a brother, Clyde Hollingsworth of Atlanta.

John E. Mitchell dies at AMCI
John Elgie Mitchell of Douglass died last night at the Augusta Medical Complex.
His funeral arrangements are pending at the Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home of Douglass.
Survivors include his wife, Edna of the home, and sons, Steve, John and Jerry Mitchell.

Former Augustan dies in Texas
Miriam Clara Birran of Elgin, Texas, died Tuesday. Mrs. Birran and her family were former residents of the Augusta area.
A graveside service is planned in Texas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leroy Melvin Birran.
Surviving are two sons, Melvin of Elgin and Eugene of Wichita and a sister, Genevieve Jones of Jonesville, Mich.
