W.M. Melvin Burress

W.M. Melvin Burress, Augusta, 90, retired dairy farmer, was born Jan. 12, 1921 and died April 13, 2011.
Melvin was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Visitation 5-7 p.m. Friday at Headley Funeral Chapel. Graveside service will be 3 p.m. on Saturday, April 16, at Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta.
Those attending should use the Ohio Street entrance.
He enjoyed working the farm where he was
born and where he passed away peacefully. Melvin, a life-long farmer, farmed with his brother Gerald as Burress Brothers Farms, and was a partner in J&B Implement, which also included his nephew Joe Eldringhoff. Since 1985 Melvin has been a partner in Burress Farms with his son Walter. He was involved in many dairy association boards for many years also. Melvin is the last surviving member of 8 brothers and sisters, which included, Ted Burress, Francis Roman, Allan Burress, Wilbur Burress, Ruth Corbin, Gerald Burress, and Hazel Eldringhoff. He was married for 42 years to the love of his life, Hazel, who he has missed dearly for 15 years since her passing.
Melvin is survived by: daughters, Catherine Beckwith (Mike) of Edmond Okla., Margaret Linn (Dale) of Emporia; son, Walter Burress (Diana) of Augusta; grandchildren, Melissa Mills, Jessica Snider,
Andy Linn, Amanda Linn, Andrea Pletcher, Olivia Burress, Ariel Burress, and 4 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Amedisys Hospice.
