Charles E. Renfro

Charles Eugene Renfro, 84, of Mulvane, formerly af Augusta, passed away on Monday, July 18, 2011.
A military interment will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, July 22, at the Kansas Veterans Cemetery, Winfield. Visitation with family from 1-2 p.m., followed by memorial service at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 23, both at the Derby Church of Christ.
He was born in Sedgwick County, Kan. on April 29,1927 to Ray G. and Edna Frances Renfro.
He grew up around the Douglass area and joined the U.S. Navy in May 1945 when he was 18 and was a Seaman 1st Class in the Fire Department at Pearl Harbor. Later, he graduated from Douglass High School in May 1947. He worked for Kaneb Pipeline in Augusta and El Dorado for 33 years and later worked for AID Aircraft in Wichita for 5 (| years, retiring in 1993.
3 Charles served as a Deacon and Elder for the , Augusta Church of I Christ. Later he was a Deacon of Missions for reva Joan McCain on Nov. 25,1948. They were married for 62 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, John Renfro, and his daughter, Eugenia Press.
He is survived by: his wife, Joan; his sons, Dennis and wife Connie, Stratton, Neb., Morris and wife Lorrie, Edmond, Okla., and Scott and wife Debbie, Wichita; son-in-law, Paul Press, San Antonio, Texas; brothers, Art and wife Elaine Renfro, Cheyenne, Wyo.,
Irvin Renfro and wife Dorothy, Las Cruces, NM; sister, Alberta and husband Arlie Evans of Derby; 8 grandchildren,
7 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Mary Sowers

Mary Frances (Roy) Sowers, 64, of Ann Arbor, Mich., passed away July 17, 2011 in her Ann ner in Ann Arbor, with services at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 21. MaryFran will be flown to Kansas. Headley Funeral Chapel, Augusta, will provide burial services at 10 a.m. on Monday, July 25, at Green Valley Cemetery, near Furley, Kan.
MaryFran was a distinguished Professor of Epidemiology for the School of Public Health, University of Michigan with extensive research work for Women's Health as the Director of the Center for Integrated Approaches to Complex Diseases.
She was the daughter of the late Robert and Edwina (Cooper) Roy and proceeded in death by her sister Alice Roy, and the family dog Murphy.
She is survived by: her spouse, Ray Sowers; son, Paul; sister, Betty Ann Roy; brother, John A. Roy (Dana); brother and sister-in-law, F.W. (Juanita) Sowers; sister-in-law, Peggy Brock; and several nieces and nephews.

Eileen Barnes

Eileen Ball Barnes, 86, Augusta, died on Tuesday, July 19,2011.
A memorial service will be held later in Santa Barbara, Calif.
She was born on Jan. 1, 1925, in Parsons, Kan., to Thomas 0. and Edna Towery Ball.
Originally a fashion illustrator, she was for many years a resident of the Verdanta Society’s Sarada Convent in Santa Barbara, Calif., and managed their bookstore.
Her survivors are: sisters, Marie Corbin of Augusta, and Ruth Krause and husband Orlando of Wichita; nieces and nephews, David K.Corbin and Kathryn Owens, both of Augusta, Jane McCracken, husband Wayne and son David of Yukon, Okla.; many friends around the world.
