Anna M. Starns
78. ANDOVER

Anna Margaret (Carpenter) Starns, 78, retired teacher, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2012, at Andover Court Assisted Living.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 31, at at Haverhill Christian Church, Augusta. A private family graveside will be held in the Cedar Point Cemetery.
Survivors include: her daughters, Cindy (Doug) VanRanken of Andover and Jackie Piha of Douglass; brothers, Gus (Betty) Carpenter Jr., of Piedmont, Gerald Carpenter of Cedar Point, and Richard (MaryAnn) Carpenter of Andover; sisters, Yvonne Allen and Cleta Scott both of Strong City, Kansas; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Anna was preceded in death by her spouse; parents; brother Morris Carpenter; sisters Juanita Pierce and Janet Rem-schner; one great-granddaughter Betsy VanRanken.
Memorials have been established with Haverhill Christian Church or Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice or Arab Shrine Children's Travel Fund or Alamine Children's Transportation Fund all in care of Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta.


Floyd ‘Mike’ McMullen, Jr.
84, GARDEN CITY

Floyd Calvin “Mike McMullen, Jr., 84, Garden City, and formerly of Augusta, passed away on March 13, 2012. Funeral was held on March 17 in Haviland, Kan.
He was born July 14, 1928 to Floyd C. and Loretta (Tompkins) McMullen in Pratt, Kan. In 1944, Mike joined the U.S. Merchant Marines. He married Audrey Hannan on Aug. 20, 1947 and they made their home in Haviland for 14 years. He obtained his masters in Education Administration and taught in Kansas schools and Las Vegas. He returned to Kansas as a principal in Garden City, in Augusta for nine years, then Towanda, Great Bend and Haviland. While a principal at Augusta’s Lincoln Elementary, he was affectionately known as “Mr. Mac.”
He is survived by: children, Cherry Del (Lewis) Payne, Steven Ward (Keri) McMullen, Michael Scott (Angela) McMullen, Stacy Grant (Jeanne) McMullen, Rebecca Rae (Dwayne) Pietz, and Tori Ann (Chuck) Combow; 14 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren.
A memorial has been established with the Kiowa County Library in Greensburg, 320 S. Main, Suite 120, Greensburg, KS 67054.

Mary Poland
84, ISABEL

Mary June Sleeper Poland, age 84, passed on March 27, 2012.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. -8 p.m., Friday, March 30 at Poland
Larrison Mortuary in Pratt.
Funeral services will be held at the Isabel Church of Christ at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, March 31st, Services will be led by family members with son-in-law Bill Buggeln presiding.
Mary was bom at Cream Valley, Nashville, Kan.on August 5,1927, the daughter of Victor and Lulu Tabor Sleeper. Mary was a homemaker, friend, and neighbor in Pratt and Barber counties.
Children of the family include: Dianne and husband Bill Buggeln, Augusta, Rita and husband Howard Kendall, Edmond, Okla,, Richard and wife Anita Corbin Poland, Isabel, Gregory and wife Janet Storey Poland, Edmond, Okla., Brian and wife Tammy Strack Poland, Isabel, Kendall and wife Rhonda Blasdel Poland, Sublette; 18 grandchildren; 26 greatgrandchildren.
Mary has been a member of the Isabel Church of Christ, Barber County Cattlewoman, Pratt County EHU, Pratt County 4-H, and Stitch/n/Chatter Club.
She is survived by her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sister and brother in law Helen and Warren Hamm, and sister Kathryn Elliott of Mulvane, numerous nieces and nephews and community friends.
Mary was preceded in death by: her husband, Don Poland;brothers, Robert Sleeper, Clifford Sleeper, Floyd Sleeper, Milton Dwight (Jiggs) Sleeper, and Lowell Sleeper; sisters, Dorothy Thom, Betty Myers, and Elsie Smith.
The family suggests that memorial donations be sent to a Hospice Center of your choice (Hospice Care of Kansas, South Wind Hospice, Harry Hynes at Via Christi, etc.) or, Silver Maple Camp in Kingman, Kansas which was the camp attend by children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
