Donna Dee Keller
79, LONG BEACH, CA.
Donna Dee Keller, 79, Long Beach, Calif., formerly of Augusta, passed away on Jan. 17, 2012 after a brief illness.
She was born to Lee Roy and Vivian Vancil in El Dorado and grew up in Augusta, and was a graduate of Augusta High School, class of 1950. Following graduation, Donna married and had two sons,
Lee Marley and Jeff Marley. She worked at a local dental office and as an operator for the phone company before embarking on a career as a secretary at Mobil Oil Refinery in Augusta. As the only single woman in attendance at her 15th year high school reunion, she became reacquainted with former classmate, Paul Keller. Soon after the reunion, Donna relocated to Dallas, Texas.
She and Paul wrote to each other and Paul made several trips to visit her in Dallas. He finally proposed to Donna in the car on the way to the Dallas airport to return to California. They were married in September 1966 in Colorado Springs, Colo, and honeymooned by driving to California, stopping in Las Vegas to meet up with some of Paul’s friends from California.
“Queen” was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Paul.
She will be remembered with love by her family and numerous life long friends, including: sister, Nina Vancil; daughter, Lori Keller and son-in-law, Randy Marsh; sons, Lee Marley, Jeff (Linda) Marley; granddaughter, Kristine Dillon (Shane); grandson, Jason Marley (Constance); three great-grandsons, Jude, K. J., and Jaxon; dear friends, Raul and sister-of-the-heart, Sandi Salomon, other daughter, Pilar Salomon, adopted son, Frank R. East, Jr.; uncle and aunt, Dennis and Joyce Thrasher.
They eventually settled in Long Beach, and Donna became a homemaker, raising their daughter Lori. Donna took pride in maintaining an elegant, yet welcoming home. An avid cookbook collector, fabulous cook, and vivacious hostess, she loved to throw parties and would whip up paella or lasagna for 20. The kitchen was always the gathering p lace at Mamma Donna’s house; family and friends knew there would always be iced tea in the refrigerator, treats in the cookie jar, a sympathetic ear, and much laughter. Donna particularly loved decorating their home (always with a touch of red) for various holidays, especially Halloween and Christmas. Her creative streak allowed her to excel in needlepoint, crewel embroidery, and tole painting. She eventually joined Paul in running their business, Beebe Glass Shop, managing the office, as well as “The Boss Man.” She was thrilled when they retired together in 2000, so they finally could enjoy more getaways to Solvang and San Diego, Calif.
Known for her class, flair, thoughtfulness, graciousness, integrity, and gift of gab, she charmed and galvanized those who knew her, easily making friends where ever she went.
