Claudine Madison, 75, of Augusta, passed away Thursday, July 26th, 2012, after a brave battle with cancer. Viewing will be 6pm. until Rosary at 7 pm. Monday, July 30th; funeral mass will be at 10:00 am. on Tuesday,
July 31st. all at St. James Catholic Church in Augusta, Ks. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Augusta, Ks.
Claudine was born in Danville, Kansas on September 15th 1936 to the late Gertrude (Guame) and Sam Davis. They lived in Anthony, Kansas for one year, then moved to Plain-view in Wichita. They moved to Douglass Kansas in 1943 where she graduated from High School in 1954. She met Wayne Madison while working in the local drug store in Douglass. She married Wayne Madison after a short 3 month courtship at St. James Catholic Church on Oct. 23, 1955. They had been married 56 years this past October. Claudine worked for Knebler Construction as a secretary for many years. She left Kneblers thinking she would enjoy retirement, when she was asked by Fr. Tom Stroot if she would consider being the church secretary. She took the job, and loved it so much; she worked for three additional priests for many more years before retiring again. Last year she took a part time job with Coopers Drug delivering prescriptions to Augusta residents and Lakepoint nursing home. She really enjoyed driving the drug bug. She had to give up her final job when she found out she was ill in January of 2012.
Wayne and Claudine had been blessed with six children: Theresa Carey and husband James of Augusta,Kansas; Wayne Madison Jr. and wife Michelle ofWi-chita, Kansas; Vance Madison of Augusta, Kansas; Lisa Voss and husband John of Cheney, Kansas; Cheryl Leshley and husband Hugh of Augusta, Kansas, and Kari Hufinan and husband Roy of El Dorado, Kansas. Wayne and Claudine also have 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
Claudine was preceded in death by her parents, husband Wayne on February 23,2012, and daughter Cheryl Leshley on June 9th. 2012. Also a grandson Wade Carey, son of James and Theresa, and a sister Phyllis Finney.
Her surviving siblings are Joyce Matson of South Carolina; Norma Compton of Cheney, Kansas; Roberta Frye of Wichita, Kansas; and Jim Davis of Douglass, Kansas.
Claudine enjoyed life very much. Her life with her husband was at the top of her list. They spent a lifetime doing projects in their home and yard. For years they had a huge garden that helped feed their growing family. She also enjoyed her flower gardens and really missed working in them when she became ill.
She was a very good cook and enjoyed having family get togethers, especially when she planned birthday dinners for each of her children and their families. Volunteering was something she also enjoyed doing. She was always willing to help with projects, whether at church, her community, or with her family. Church groups such as Alter Society, and the Music Ministry were very special to her, and she enjoyed participating with each one. She also helped with collection counting and recording part time in the church office until she became ill.
The people of St. James meant the world to her, and she tried to meet and greet any new faces she might see, and made many new friends that way. She also enjoyed Harvest House, a ministry for seniors to get together and have planned functions for fun and fellowship

She was very involved with the Downtown Inc. project, whose goal was to revitalize the businesses and overall look of our main street in Augusta. She really enjoyed the people and was excited seeing the project come to life. She was always the first one to volunteer when her children or grandchildren needed help with home projects, or someone needed a babysitter. She enjoyed her family so much.
Her Catholic faith meant everything to her, and she revolved her life around living to the best of her ability what her faith represents. She was a very devoted wife, who loved her husband with all her heart, a wonderful, beautiful mother, and a friend to many.
She will be missed so much, until we see her again.
