65, DOUGLASS
Janis Kay (Hall) Leayman, 65, Douglass, retired certified nursing assistant, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2012.
No visitation. Graveside service at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 29, at the Douglass Cemetery.
Survivors: mother, Maree Eckhardt of Cassville, Mo.; daughters, Melodie Hotmar (Roger Stith), Kristina McGee; son, Jason Leayman, all of Newton; favorite grandson, Ty McGee and favorite granddaughter, Shaela Hotmar; siblings, Ron Hall (Shirley) of Colorado Springs, Colo., Linda Cales of Fountain, Colo.; several nieces and nephews; great nieces and great nephews.
She is preceded in death by her father, Francis Hall and stepfather, Bill Eckhardt.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is established with the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements with Hilyard-Smith Funeral Home.
Gerald "Jerry" Abbott
84, FT. MYERS, FLA.
Gerald Dean "Jerry" Abbott, 84, died peacefully at home in Ft. Myers, Fla. on Friday, Sept. 21, 2012, after a brief, yet courageous battle with cancer.
A time of visitation for relatives and friends will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Oct 6, at Dunsford Funeral Home, Augusta.
Services and burial will follow at 2 p.m. in Elmwood Cemetery, Augusta. Those attending should use the 12th St. entrance.
Jerry was born Nov. 3, 1927, in Winfield, to Cleona (Baird) and Ray Roscoe Abbott.
He served in the U.S. Navy as a Seaman First Class, graduated from Kansas State University, Manhattan, Kan., and was a successful archi-tect/contractor who owned Abbott Construction in Salina before retiring to Florida. His spirit lives on in the many original paintings he left behind as well as his love for music and books.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, stepfather Don Broomfield, stepbrother Don Broomfield Jr., and his first wife Harriet Boozell Abbott.
He leaves behind: his wife, Jan Abbott, Ft. Myers, Fla.; sister, Laresta Dimfield of Wichita; three daughters, Judy Wasko and her husband Bob, Lawrence, Kan., Christie Abbott, Naples, Fla., Kim Mansfield, Voorhees, NJ; two stepsons, Jeff Boyd, Bartlesville, Okla., and Greg Turner and his wife Janetha, Overland Park; his dog, Molly. Jerry had eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, and many wonderful and loving relatives and friends.
Memorials to the American Cancer Society (www.cancer.org) or the Harry Chapin Food Bank in Ft. Meyers, FL (www.harrychapinfood-bank.org), and maybe left in care of the funeral home.

Ruth Benton, 90, of Augusta, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 26, 2012.
Graveside 2 p.m.,Monday, Oct.l, 2012, at Benton Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta. Those attending should use the 12th St. entrance.
Ruth was born in Pratt, Kan. on Feb. 26,1922, to the late Susie (Boyle) and Homer Shepard. Ruth married Hersel Charles Benton and moved to Augusta. She worked as a stockroom employee at Beech Aircraft for 10 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Brenda Lynn McBee; sister, Cleo Verona Haworth; and brother, Edwin A. McCready.
She is survived by: daughter, Lana Sue Payton and husband Jerry of Augusta; son, Larry Dean Benton and wife Kathy of Newton; daughter, Donna Joann Craig of Hutchinson; sister, Norma June Oglesby, of Wichita; 11 grandchildren: 22 greatgrandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.

David James Akalis, 46, Air Force veteran, El Dorado Correctional Facility guard and firearms instructor, of Augusta, passed away on Tuesday, Sept.25.
Funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 1, at the First Baptist
Church of Augusta.
David is survived by: wife, Paula; children, Amanda, Rebecca, Jessica and Caleb; siblings, Stephen and Cheryl; grandchildren , Cody, Kolby and Riley.
He was preceded in death by his parents Steven and Sylvia.

Mildred “Millie” (Shunk) Lister, 90, retired Beech Aircraft Engineering clerk, of Augusta, passed away Sunday Lister afternoon, Sept. 23,2012 at Victoria Falls Assisted Living, Andover.
Service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3, at the Augusta United Methodist Church.
She was born March 2, 1922 in Lost Springs, Kan. to Cecil and Helen Perrine Durant. She graduated from Madison High School, Madison, Kan. in 1940.
Millie was preceded in death by her husbands, Preston Shunk and Bob Lister, as well as a very dear friend Jim Bower; her parents, Cecil and Helen Durant, a brother Edward Durant and sister Aneita Wasson.
Millie is survived by: five daughters, Donna (Bob) Pekich, Phoenix, Karen (Jack) Tones, Andover, Kathy (Dwane) George, Augusta, Pat (Roy) Thomas, El Dorado, and Barbara (Phil) Atkinson, Wichita; 11 grandchildren, 16 great-randchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
